    Background Noise

"I CAN NOT SLEEP" without background noise! I have to have some kinda white noise in order for me to sleep. Right now I have a nice loud floor fan that does the trick. The only thing is whenever the fan stops running for whatever reason whether it be a power out, someone turns...

Need Noise And Light To Sleep

I can't sleep without some kind of background noise and light on. I don't know why. I sleep best when my dad is still up and he's watching tv. The TV's noise, and the light shines on the wall right outside my room and helps me stay calm or something, I dunno. At my mom's, she's...

I have to have something to fall asleep to.

Music, TV, radio. Silence causes anxiety. If I stay over at someone's home I am petrified of lying in the dark, alone with my insomnia, trying not to make any noise.

    Trains And baseball

I live within a mile of a baseball stadium, a 24/7 industrial plant and a rail yard with a main line track. ya think? My girl lives in the country and it's hard to sleep there because it's quiet. When it's warm we leave the windows open... that is if she ever lets me come over...

    Water.

The sound of water helps me sleep. It can be a waterfall, the ocean/beach, a brook, a thunderstorm (ok, that isn't water but it has the same feel), and rain!! I absolutely love the sound of rain. That's the one I usually use.Although, on very restless nights, the sound of rain...

If I Could Sleep With A Lawnmower Running, I Would

I sleep with an air conditioner and a fan on high. There's another machine too, but I have no clue what it is. It probably doesn't even work anymore (I've had it for about 10 years) but it makes the most amazing noise. It's tough to sleep without all this background noise. At a...

I Need Noise - But Not From The Neighbors

I live in a basement apartment.I need "white noise" so I leave the television on and one of the two kitchen lights in case I get up in the middle of the night - it's a long walk to my bathroom from the bedroom. I can't sleep in total silence - there's no way. But another reason I...

    I Must Have My Fan

For me, I cannot sleep without my little oscillating fan. I'll have a fan on year-round. Summer, winter, doesn't matter. Trying to sleep in complete silence is just weird to me.

    Wind, Crickets And Trains

I can't sleep in stuffy silence.  I like having a window open, or at least a fan blowing.  I need moving air and the light sound of breezes or humming fan blades.  Perhaps because of always keeping a window open, except in the dead of winter, I also seem to have an instinctive...

    I need to hear something.

Cars, planes, crickets. I need to hear something. The silence scares me. Every night I play music until I fall asleep. Without it I just can't sleep.

    In need of some suggestions.

I used to fall asleep with my laptop playing Youtube videos on repeat while my boyfriend worked weeknights, and on weekend nights I would fall asleep to him playing video games(His rage is adorable... Most of the time). Now he's working 12 hour shifts and is home at nights, I'm...

    Thought I Was Alone!

I sleep with the TV on so low I can hear voices but can't make out what they're saying. I have that "white noise" effect that way, but if I can hear what they're saying I get interested and can't sleep.

    I Can...

...but I do prefer usually to have something in the background. Static or techno work best. But a lot of other things work. Pure quiet usually leaves me with my thoughts, and those are usually too loud for me to sleep with. Booze works too.

    Shhh...sleep!

My hearing is excellent or better than regular people but I don't want to get into details of why and how! But if I try to sleep without music, I won't sleep at all. I can hear the smallest things or I just know if someones close by or coming to our door. But just the smallest...

I Can't Sleep In Silence Usually.

Usually, I fall asleep to my ipod. I can almost never fall asleep in complete silence. I love to have a faint noise in the backround when I'm trying to sleep. It makes me feel like I'm not completely alone and all. It's weird, but I'd rather sleep in noise.

    Need An Audio Book

I can not sleep with out an audio book, as a kid my parents always had the tv loud, so when i went to sleep it was always to something. Thankfully I can sleep through a Twister, but if a pin drops i wake up.

    Hiss

I worry, I have racing thoughts when I should sleep.  I found that having talk radio (in my case BBC Radio5 live, worth the licence fee on its own) with the sound down really quiet works for me.  I'm vaguely interested in what they're talking about, but it's just too hard to...

    Sleep W/o Noise!

I saw this group and got excited! I can never fall asleep unless there is something playing in the room, usually tv. It's really strange to think that noise would help make people fall asleep, but the silence is more noisy to me than my tv, if that makes any sense. I've tried...

Just Cant Sleep In The Quiet

I cannot sleep when it is quiet. I find it creepy. I have always liked falling asleep in front of the tv, the comforting glow and hum of voices. Or maybe falling asleep listening to classical music. At the moment though I cant sleep without my fan on.
