I Did a First Aid Course

    Poor Baby Annie

I went on a Paediatric First Aid course recently.  The trainer was trying to tell us that babies can fall on their heads, so he took Baby Annie, (the doll who we practice infant resuscitation on), and threw her into the air.  She landed with a crash on the ground - and...

    It Was Amazing!

You have to do a 6-hour-course before you get your driving license in Austria. The normal takes 16 hours, but the "driving license course" is much shorter, the price stays the same. Everybody told me how boring that course is, and that they almost fell asleep during...

I Don't Want To Ever Have To Be Relied On To Use It However

I am just too forgetful at remembering half of what I learnt and I don't ever want the stress of having to use it. I think that would be so dreadful to have to try to help someone having a heart attack or chocking etc I learnt what I had to for it but its too much for me really...

    CPR

I'm a lifeguard, so part of our certification is First Aid, CPR, and AED.  The CPR/AED part expires every year, so we have to re-cert at the beginning of each summer.  This year, we went to do it, and none of the other guards knew how.  Red Cross teaches you how to...

    A Work Olace Task

I don't know why they insist everyone at my work place has to have First aid training. I guess though it came in useful one day when someone had an accident and there was no shortage of trained staff able to deal with it so I didn't have to worry too much about diving in to a...

    I Love First Aid..

I did a course for my driving license (you have to do a first aid course to get your driving license in my country), and now I'm currently having one at nursing school. First Aid is so important, and I can't understand why so few people are interested in it.   Here's...

    I Am

the one that drew the short straw and am the qualified first aider for my work I had to sit through four days of training, and almost fainted when the instructor started talking about broken leg bones and going into great detail about them snapping, but apart from that I passed...

I Take One Every Two Years

I'm required to take CPR every two years for my job, but I was alwo required to take a First Responder course when I was in school.  This was many years ago and I wonder if I could do any of the things now that I 'learned' then.

    Had To Practice It Tonight

I am still a little shaken up. The baby is alright. She discovered how to unscrew a cap to a spray bottle filled with water. But I'm even more upset because the 911 guy was more than detached. He wasn't giving any instructions. Because she was breathing, that's all he kept...

    Empowered

I'm a lifeguard, so part of certification is a first aid component. While I have never had to perform first aid, I feel like I am a better citizen because I know how. If the occasion ever arises, I like to know that I am prepared. I think everyone should know how to perform...

The Taste, Oh God The Taste!

Our school had us do one over the course of a few days (or possibly just a day. I have a terrible memory). Unfortunately the only thing I really remember specifically learning from it was how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation properly, but I know the rest of the basics anyway...

    Made to

Our school had us all do one. So we spent a day doing the basics, bandages, kiss of life and so forth. I quite enjoyed it. It was interesting to learn all that stuff and is related to our lives.

    At Work

I'm one of the office first aiders. I get retrained every couple of years but have not had much call to use it apart from a burn and a couple of cuts. Last year I went to Florida, on my first trip to Walmart, to get some essential supplies. I had to take the kids into McDs for...

    For Work

I got this job right after graduation (I needed my diploma before they'd hire me) with a place called Good Shepherd Lutheran Homes caring for the disabled. One of my requirements was to take a first aid course every six months. I worked for them for over four years, so I took the...

    I'm A Certified First Responder

I've been doing medical-related volunteering and work since I graduated from high school. I'm a certified EMR / First Responder (like an EMT-B in the U.S, except I have to have a government license to work as one--so I volunteer for now for big events, or get paid if I'm under...
