I Dislike Poor Grammar and Text Speak

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 431 People

YOLO is carpe diem for idiots.

Bae is Dutch for faeces. "Your hand". "You're ok." "Be quiet." "I am quite right." "I want to stay". "I do too." "We're lovers." "You were right." ...Perfect Grammar is next to impossible, typos can't be avoided but decent grammar goes a long way.

I cannot stand Mis-spelled words in texts

or abbreviations for simple words. Are we that lazy as a society that we cannot muster the strength to spell "you" or "okay"? And your phone has a built in dictionary. Come on people.....

Uh, ..isn't the term itself an example of the

hated act which is known as "text speak?" Actually, I don't hate it so much when it's used where there are limited means, for example, limited amount of characters can be received or sent or a device that has limited available characters. What I don't like is when I hear someone...

    Grammar Rehab

I became very accustomed to 'talkin n writin like dis wen i 1st got msn.'  Now I've been trying really hard to get it out of my system and go back to that slang-free formal method of writing we call grammar and syntax.  Unfortunately, not everyone is satisfied with...

    Gr8 It Ain't

...and yes, I apologise unreservedly for the 'ain't'. Anyhoo, (oops, sorry again), nothing infuriates me more when I'm reading people's experiences on EP than coming across people who cannot spell properly, have no grasp of grammar or sentence construction, and litter their...

    Because.

I have a great love of the English language. I am by no means an expert in it, and I'm sure I make several mistakes myself.  Being dyslexic I find I am constantly checking, and re-checking what I write. I am borderline obsessive in insuring what I type makes grammatical...

Dumbing down? How about smarten up?

I'm getting really tired of being made to feel badly because I'm not illiterate. Yes, I'm smart. Reach higher. Achieve more. Do better. You graduated from the same English classes that I did. Suck it up and express yourself in a way that makes grammatical sense. Why...

    Its Petty But Whatever...

Its acceptable I think only on cellphones because when you sms you're usually rushing around or something and the keypad is tiny and irritating to use so make it quick as possible. That's fine and why they call it text speak anyway because an sms is a text message.  ...
