Literally I lay down to sleep and half a second later *click* I'm awake and it's morning - 6 hours later... I've never had trouble sleeping but have never had any conscious notice of time passing or dreaming while I am asleep. Anyone else in the same boat?

geoffw wrote on 11:49PM at Jan 10th, 2012 I'm 42 and despite people telling me that i have a near photographic memory, I have never remembered a dream. At various stages of my life I have made great effort to keep dream journals near my bed - performed little rituals to aid in memory recollection and followed all sorts of suggestions that were intended to bring on dream recall. Still nothing. At this point - until I find evidence proving otherwise - my best conclusion is that I do not dream! I have looked into the phenomenon (as an admitted amateur) and I have yet to find any research that actually substantiates the claim that: "We all dream - most of us just don't remember." To the best of my findings, no such research exists. The closest I can find is an old study (using an admitted overly small sample) whose conclusion states that: most dreaming occurs during REM sleep, and most people experience REM sleep every night. This seems to be the basis of the great myth. I have found some vague references to people and circumstances that acknowledge that no dreaming occurs for some people some times - although this is generally associated with mental disorders and their treatment. I would love to be proven wrong - these dreams people talk about seem to be a lot of fun. I am happy to accept that dreaming is the norm and not dreaming is rare - even very rare. But for now I will state with empirical evidence of a personal nature that there are people who can function quite normally in society who do not dream and never have.
