I Don't Know How to Take Compliments

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 4,619 People

I'm trying to get comfortable with them,

trying to remember to thank. A little while ago I read that dismissing a compliment is kind of dismissing the complimenting person's taste or opinion, and I don't want to do that. They often feel like an uncomfortable pill to swallow, making me shudder on the inside, squeemish...

I'm terrible at it! I automatically assume

that everyone has a negative view of me, and I accept it. It's kind of like having an underdog mentality; I automatically believe that everyone doubts my abilities and worth, only I don't feel like I have to prove anything to anyone because I'm happy with who I am. Although I...

for me to do. Sometimes when people give me compliments, I think they're lying. It's not their fault, it's just somethingI have to deal with. I'm a little weird I can trust people but not their words. So in a way I don't trust. Ahhhhh it sucks. What is a good way to respond to...
