Some musings on how to accept compliments.

These days, I am far better at receiving compliments than I used to be. It is not a skill that I have perfected yet, but it certainly far better than it has been. With that in mind, I thought I would share my perspective on the matter. On Compliments. The problem...

    True And Frustrating

I am working on this. I don't like that I feel so uncomfortable with compliments. I really thought being here would help and maybe it has a little. But I have this automatic response in my head I can't seem to get rid of. I will continue to work on being more accepting and...

I just don't know how to take compliments.

Either my anxiety gets the best of me and I think the person is up to something (or wants something), or I think they are lying. I feel that I have mastered the awkward thank you and smile. I'm trying to learn how not to read to much into it, and how to graciously accept it.

    It's True

Call it sad or not or whatever but I was not raised in a household where compliments were consistent or prominent and most the time they were non existent. Not much interaction in my family to be honest talking about your feelings was prohibited. End of story. Compliments were...

It's weird taking compliments like "you're

    I Never Believe Them!

My problem is that when i get a compliment, i just tend to flat-out say 'no I'm not' or that's not true, but thanks anyway for the thought!' It also depends on what the compliment is, for some reason, if i get a compliment on how i look (except about my weight!), i.e you're...

    Is There A Right Response

Seriously I'd love it if someone could tell me what to say when a person compliments you besides...uh...thanks. It makes me feel awkward, uncertain, and a little apprehensive about why they're saying nice things. It's not that I don't like being complimented but what am I...

I honestly don't think I deserve any of them.

If someone compliments me I either rudely ignore what they say, deflect to something else or give an unenthusiastic thanks. It can be a compliment on anything, how I look, how I do my job or anything else.

well first I rarely get them.

So when I do, it's pretty weird and I feel awkward somehow. So from that, I even don't know how to compliment others which suck. In my head I'd be like 'oooh she dresses up nice today'. I won't say it but instead I just stare at them with a blank dumb face.
