I Don't Think Gender Roles and Stereotypes Should Exist

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 1,140 People

I hate the "oh you're a girl you need to stay

home and have 3 kids!" Seriously? I'm taking marketing classes to start my own business and be a corporate CEO, not stay home all day every day. If that's what you want, then go for it, no matter your gender. But that's not for me.

It's something that we should accept,

that not everyone is "traditional" but thats okay ^~^ because everyone is beautiful and unique no matter who you are. Thats all i wanted to say ^~^

There are people in this world

who feels different than what their body was created for...and that's just fine with me. If you are a woman but feel like a man, then be a man. If you are a guy who feels as if you should be a woman, then be a woman. You aren't hurting anybody by following your heart. :)

My mom showed me a photo of a trans women

who had a beard still and she said is this the worst trans person you've seen? I was really angry and told if she feels comfortable in her own body she doesn't need your approval! I just think my mom is so close minded and she thinks genders are only certain traits it makes me...

Want me to be the stay-at-home-Mom,

guys? Tough luck. A: I'm lesbian. B: I'm going to be an actress, so there's no way in Hell I'm gonna be cooped up in a house. C: In this economy, most families can't afford to have a stay-at-home-Mom, so it's not even financially feasible.

    Totally!

I may have a husband, but I'm a total pansexual. For those of you who don't know what that is, its not that I like pans, its that I like anyone really. I'm kinda what you'd call gender blind. Penis. Great. Vagi!nas. Sweet. Balls. Cool stuff. B00bies. Those are awesome. What this...

    It's Awful

I don't like gender roles. It's stupid to say that someone has to do something, or should be able to do something, just because of their gender. I mean for Pete's sake! Saying that girls don't play video games, or fix their own cars, or do anything useful besides making...

I simply don't care. And by

that reason I don't believe in the idea of gender roles. If you're a woman and want to be a ditch digest then don't fret and do it already. If you are a gig and want to be a nanny, don't fret and do it already.

More to the point, I don't think people should

police others based on their genitalia. In some areas of my life, I am quite feminine. I also have a few "masculine" characteristics. It's when people try to lay down the gauntlet of what others "should" do based on their chromosomes that I take issue with.

I agree. I don't really think about my gender

often unless it comes up in debate or discussion. In fact, I prefer to base my identity around other things that don't relate to gender roles or stereotypes.

    'female' Does Not Equal 'girlie'

Just because I am female, does not mean I have to have 'girlie' characteristics, and want to be a 'typical woman', the example created by our messed up modern society. I am not entitled to being any particular way because I was born as a female, not a male. And males aren't...

    Why Not?

I don't think anyone should be forced into a so-called gender role. But why do some people get so pissy with folks who fit the stereotype? Is it somehow wrong that I take out the garbage and my wife does a lot of the cooking? Is it wrong that I wear suits and she wears...

I don't believe in being "manly"

or "girly". Gender roles are definitely something manmade and can be broken only by humans. People are people and they should not be categorized. Everyone has their own hobbies, their own likes and dislikes, whether they be "manly" or "girly". Just be you, and don't care...

    They Are Only Limiting

I feel fine about my physical sex but I don't care about gender at all. People should not be expected to do any thing because of their sex or any other accident of birth. The roles forced on women are disgusting and dehumanizing as are the roles forced on men. The whole idea of a...

Gender Is So Much More Complicated Than The Sum Of Our Parts.

I find the idea there should be gender roles in this day and age, I have been told to "be an man" a few times in my life a.d i find that very rude. I am as much a man as any other just because i'm not what others expect or assume a man should be like. I fully agree with this...

I Don't Believe In Gender Roles

I'll start with cooking. Out of all the couples I've eaten with, the best meals have been where the guy cooks. I don't think "women in the kitchen" existed before the 1900s. For example, some farm. The guy "labors in the field all day," then at harvest he has to take it to town...

Gender Is A Social Construct, It Does Not Exist.

Gender is a social construct, it is the roles and duties assigined to your sex, there are four sexes, Male, Female, Intersex and Neuter. Gender is what we assign to this, more importantly what society assigns to it, for example a boy must act manly, he must be stoic, independant...

    There are only two genders/sexes.

Those are male and female. We are as we are born, and as nature intended. The trans are conforming to gender stereotypes. A woman for example who likes certain things that society deems are masculine now think they have to be male. The same applies to men who think they are...

We need to be careful of what we wish for.
