I Don't Think There Should Be a Columbus Day

    The Beginning Of The End...

Columbus "discovering" America is a tad far-fetched, for starters. He didn't discover it as there were already people living there. Besides, he landed on what now is known as Venezula (which means 'Little Venice', because Chris was born in Venice, Italy). America was named after...

    And Neither Should You.

Unless of course, you think a raping and pilaging slaver trader is someone to be admired. Because of Columbus's exaggerated report and promises, his second expedition was given seventeen ships and more than twelve hundred men. The aim was clear: slaves and gold. They went from...

Besides the benefit of some places closing down

for the day, I don't think this day is anything to be celebrated. People are basically celebrating the slaughter and removal of Native Americans from their lands. Then some people have the nerve to claim that illegal immigrants don't belong in America, well I'm sure that's how...

    Whats The Point?

No one gets out of school for it and he wasn't even the first person to find the new world. We should have a Viking day or no wait even better Native American day!

    It Seems Kind Of Wrong

I mean... he really DIDN'T discover America. There were already people here (why does everyone ignore that?). And Vikings had landed on American soil (and left) way before Columbus did. So... why do we still celebrate this? lol

    Why Columbus Day?

Columbus most likely landed around the Virgin Islands, not what is now the Unites States of America. Furthermore, he was nowhere near the first to discover the new world, although there were reported relatively few virgins on the island. I see no reason for it to be a U.S...

How About Replacing Columbus Day With Native American Remembrance Day Instead.

Abolish Columbus Day! That's like the Americans celebrating Osama Bin Ladin Day, Like the Irish celebrating Queen Elizabeth day and the Jews celebrating Adolf Hitler day!Though there is nothing wrong with celebrating Italian pride with it's own holiday either, just not on that...

    He was so exploitative!

I think it's actually really creepy to think that history is written by the winners which are often the oppressors. He was definitely not a hero.

    Heeellllll No

Why, exactly, do we have a holiday for a murderer/rapist/thief? He's not as amazing as everyone makes him out to be, and he found what he found on accident. He was looking for India. The man raped women and children, and worked these people to death. He wasn't some great...
