    Surprise!

Did you ever do something not expecting anything out of it, except what you were doing? Today was one of those days for me. I had some chores that I have been needing to complete, but just hadn/'t really had the time. But, today was the day to get them done. One of the chores was...

    Pens And Boxes

I've done a few boxes here and there, nothing fancy by any means, but one for a cousin of mine who wanted a box to keep his genealogy records in, one I gave to Mom (and which she returned shortly before she passed away), another I gave to my sister a few years ago.  I have a...

    Newest Pen

As the weather has turned cooler, I've started turning pens again. I did this particular one a couple of days ago - the body of the pen is made from a material called Tru-Stone, which is a heavy, crushed stone material to which resins and dyes are added.  The pen style I chose...

    I Love Woodworking

Of all the things I do for myself, I think woodworking brings me the most pleasure. It brings out the creative side of me probably more than anything. I would not call myself a master woodworker, but certainly above average. I love to build boxes of all types and shapes. I have...

There's something about taking some quality wood

and making something beautiful out of it. I will spend days on a project and if I'm not happy with it break it down and start all over again. When it's done it's got to be impressive.

    Woodworking Is A Stress Killer

I love working with my hands. Whether it be auto mechanics, woodcarving, carpentry, or construction, I enjoy getting out and getting my hands dirty. One of the reasons why I enjoy it so much is because it is a huge stress reliever. If I'm all stressed out I just go out in my...

    How Do I Get Started?

I was trained as a machinist late in my career. I retired early. Metal-working tools are MASSIVELY expensive and have lotsa requirements. So I'd like to work some wood. I have the usual space available - one car space in my garage. I figure a router table, planes (hand or...

I've been building wooden outdoor furniture

for about ten years. I've recently started building children's outdoor furniture. I have a four-year-old, so he tests everything out after completion. There is nothing I enjoy more than woodworking. During the cooler months, I love working in my shop after sunset. I'll turn on...

    Woodworking 101

I have been a woodworker for about 10 years now and it's pretty much narrowed itself down to boxes. I LOVE to build boxes. Jewelry boxes, jewelry chest, collector boxes or just a box to throw your car keys in at the end of a busy day. I recently moved and haven't set my shop...

    It Fascinates Me

For years I have been fascinated by a particular type of wood, Brids eye maple, that I have not had the pleasure of working with yet. Indented across a wide area of the grain are these amazing little eyes that give it such a unique identity and luster. It is such a pristine...

The Love Of All Things Wood

Yup, For years I have had a great appreciation for working in wood. I am sure I inherited it from my grandfather, who built houses for a living. The smell of the different types of wood, the feel of the grain, the incredible lines and patterns. Many pieces of furniture in my...
