    Question

This is more of a question than a story. Who or what is the most interesting thing you have come across in an old cemetery? Famous person, oldest marker, interesting stone?

    Cemeteries

I don't wonder around graveyards a lot but when I visit my hometown I enjoy taking walks at our graveyard. I love looking at the headstones, figuring out how old the person was when they died, seeing how many families lay together. I like how peaceful it is, time seems...

I like to walk around Allegheny Cemetery,

two blocks from my place in Pittsburgh PA USA. Over 330 acres and 125,000 at rest there. The tombstones are great reads, among other interesting stones that I read today was a man born in 1765, so far the oldest I've found there. Also saw 5 stones together, all children 6 months...

Sometimes I just like to go

and read the names on the headstones, find the oldest grave or just acknowledge the peacefulness of cemeteries. I don't like to wear shoes in a cemetery, for some reason in my mind wearing shoes feels like walking on someones grave, but bare feet feel like I'm connecting with...

Too Young To Be So Unhappy?

I'm a sophomore in high school and I just can't seem to find solid happiness.  I've always had an extremely rough family life and childhood, and last year after 14 years of abuse towards me my mom finally left my family. I'm now living with my dad and sister, and because of my...

It Has Been A Favorite Pastime Since Childhood

I just love to go to old cemeteries and look at the old stones. I feel like a big part of history is there and cemeteries just feel like they have so much life and energy! I love them so much! I always feel like I am remembering those people. There's a 46 acre cemetery in the...

    And I Did Just That...

...during the small hours of this morning. The place is small and abandoned, and a cool wind blew the melancholy of spring along the grounds. A small, tired-looking gravestone half-covered by dirt and weeds caught my eye in the hazy moonlight, and as I squatted to brush it clean...

    Finally Visited My Grampa's Grave.

Okay so for a long time now I have been exploring cemeteries. Not like some goth kid hanging out at the cemetery and talking about death and all that. (sorry if that offended anyone) I like to go to the cemetery and explore. I do it out of respect to the dead. I don't think...

    The Older, The Better

I love to explore the old sections and the pioneer cemeteries. They are full of history, yet many plots seem long ago abandoned, and cracked and falling in... hot in the sun. I wonder if their are snakes in amongst the rubble of the broken collapsed monuments that signify the...
