I Explored a Cave

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 131 People

    10 Day Survival Camp.

The high school I went to ran a 10 day survival hiking camp and part of the program was caving. I explored 2 of the 3 caves. When we got in to the third we were waist hight in water and I was looking around when the instructor said "One of the spiders found in these caves...

    ...and Saw the Monkey!

No, get your mind out of the gutter.  This isn't a naughty story. It really wasn't exploring a cave, since many others had been in it, but it was new to us, and we were unguided.  It was a cave in a state park; a straight shot in one side of a mountain and out the...

    Caves

I went to this dam in San Antonio and this guy showed us a neat little cave.  Inside it we found a note that said, "Welcome Home". Also went to Carlsbad Caverns when I was 13.  It was actually a little bit boring.  Cool at first, but not interesting...

Tomorrow morning, I am going with a group to explore a cave which we need full wetsuits for. It is a very wet cave, and it is recommended we bring life jackets too just because the bulk of it is sooooo deep.

    This Brings Back Memories

Years ago when I belonged to a cave rescue group one of my fellow members suggested a cave not far from his house to visit. With another friend we made plans to visit the cave in the middle of the week- Thus avoiding any other people. Part of the attraction of this cave was the...

    As a Child More

I explored caves that were on a beach in County Donegal, each summer, with my parents, my eldest brother and his wife.  They were Maghera Caves and they were a few miles outside the town that my family would stay in each year.  The beach itself was always...

    The Allegory of the Cave

    Cave Man

I have been a fairly active spelunker since I was a kid in Boy Scouts where I got my first experiences of cave exploring. I have been to numerous commercial caves such as Mammoth Cave and have scouted out and explored some private caves in the area where I live. I just think that...

I've Explored A Cave... Or Two, Or Three...

I've been a caver since 1973, although I've had spells of doing little caving for quite a time, for one reason or another. I'm planning to be caving again this coming weekend, in Yorkshire. I've had the unique experience of helping to discover "new" caves in the UK and in Norway...

Getting There Is Half the Adventure

Went to one yesterday, had to be five miles from the nearest paved road, seven dry creek beds, and no telling how many "are you sure the truck can do that?" When we got there, we saw some of the most incredible formations, ribbons of bacon, crystalizations, rim stone...
