Getting There Is Half the Adventure

Went to one yesterday, had to be five miles from the nearest paved road, seven dry creek beds, and no telling how many "are you sure the truck can do that?" When we got there, we saw some of the most incredible formations, ribbons of bacon, crystalizations, rim stone...

Tomorrow morning, I am going with a group to explore a cave which we need full wetsuits for. It is a very wet cave, and it is recommended we bring life jackets too just because the bulk of it is sooooo deep.

    ...and Saw the Monkey!

No, get your mind out of the gutter.  This isn't a naughty story. It really wasn't exploring a cave, since many others had been in it, but it was new to us, and we were unguided.  It was a cave in a state park; a straight shot in one side of a mountain and out the...

    The Allegory of the Cave

"Most people, including ourselves, live in a world of relative ignorance. We are even comfortable with that ignorance, because it is all we know. When we first start facing truth, the process may be frightening, and many people run back to their old lives. But if you...

I went to this dam in San Antonio and this guy showed us a neat little cave.  Inside it we found a note that said, "Welcome Home". Also went to Carlsbad Caverns when I was 13.  It was actually a little bit boring.  Cool at first, but not interesting...

grasping the reality of pot-holing, as a colleague was into it and told some grizzly and horrifying stories about it!! I loved Postojna (I think) in Slovenia. So beautiful!

    10 Day Survival Camp.

The high school I went to ran a 10 day survival hiking camp and part of the program was caving. I explored 2 of the 3 caves. When we got in to the third we were waist hight in water and I was looking around when the instructor said "One of the spiders found in these caves...

    As a Child More

I explored caves that were on a beach in County Donegal, each summer, with my parents, my eldest brother and his wife.  They were Maghera Caves and they were a few miles outside the town that my family would stay in each year.  The beach itself was always...
