I Feel Discriminated Against For Not Drinking

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 20 People

So, I don't drink. I would just rather not go there. Same with drugs. Anyway. It's hard when you're one of three people on campus that don't drink. (There's 600 of us and everyone pretty much knows about everyone else.) On more than one occasion, people have stopped talking...

    What's Wrong With People??

My boyfriend and i frequent this comedy club nearby at least once a month, maybe more, and because both of us has given up drinking, we get our first and only drink, and then the waitress is never seen from again! Oh but the drinks are flowing freely at all the other tables...

    Sometimes, But Not Often.

Sometimes when there are work related social events, I feel like I am shunned or looked down on because I choose not to drink alcohol.  Whatever.

It can be damned difficult feeling in place at college when you don't drink.  In fact, I think the last gf I had left me partially (or almost entirely) because I wouldn't get drunk.

    Peer Pressure

I have never had an issue with alcohol, but I've noticed that since I stopped drinking it in the past year, some of my friends find it hard to relate to me when I am out with them. It's as if the only way they think I can have a good time, is to be in an altered, out-of-control...

"Think" Is A Strong Word For It

My dad just moved back into town. While I hate that for many reasons the biggest reason would be he is targeting me now. You see in the past he lived in places that I could only reach by driving. Which gave me the "I need to drive home" excuse to not drink. Well this time he...

    Recovery Sucks Sometimes!

I was discriminated against when I drank and did drugs when I was really young. Now, I'm the plague for not drinking at 29, unless I say something like, "My stomach's not feelin' so hot and I gotta work in the morning." You don't have to live with how I feel after I do it. We...
