I first figured out about my tonsilloliths about 5 years ago and they never really caused me any pain until about 1 year ago. Sometimes if they get to large they start to hurt. Most doctors won't recommend it but I use Q-tips to knock them out and that can relieve a lot of the pain. Another thing that can help with some people is a product called Therabreath but it takes a while to work and sometimes doesnt. I am going to purchase a waterpick, I think that might help as well.

I almost wish mine hurt so that I could convince my doctor would agree to give me a tonsillectomy. Im going to talk to my doctor about this and hope he'll agree to give me one, but im very doubtful.

Hi Aly, I tried to respond to your message but your settings have me blocked...

Sorry to hear you're dealing with these and stressed about a solution.  As I think I mentioned, I also had some issues finding a good doctor who recognized the tonsiloliths as a serious problem.  It might just take a little exploring on your part.  If you can, go to a few Ear Nose and Throat doctors in your area (I"m in NJ) and explain the problem and see what they say.

One of the doctors basically said I was just making a big deal out of nothing and should relax, and that he rarely if ever does tonsillectomies for this problem.  THe other one was extermely non-commital and said he rarely did it for this problem, but it was up to me.  Finally, the 3rd doctor said he has done the surgery a number of times for this problem, and for some reason he has noted that they appear most often in girls aged 18-25 or so.

Its really important to find a doctor that you feel comfortable with and trust, so look until you find one that you like!

Good luck :)

Thanks!! I'm gonna look into finding a doctor to talk to, hopefully he'll understand.
