I Had Surgery

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 1,042 People

I was in the emergency room being tested

for an unknown diagnostic when I was in second grade. As many people know, there are many different kinds of tests that the doctors had to run; cat scan, blood, and then the most famous, urine. Everything was going fine up until the urine test. The instant I announced to the...

Four days ago I had a vitrectomy to my right

eye. I guess it could be said that I had it done for cosmetic reasons. It was not done for the reason that I could look more beautiful to the world, but that the world could look more beautiful to me.

    Boulders

I didn't have gall stones, the exact term the stenographer used was, Boulders. I almost died choking on my own bile because i kept trying to out last the pain in my side. If one stone gets stuck in your bile duct, you can drown in your own stomach fluid. Gross eh?

    I had discectomy (L4)/ laminectomy (S1) in 1991.

The disc was completely removed. Although I feel the surgery was tremendously successful, I still deal with lumbar pain from time-to-time over the years as a result of occasional overuse or unintentionally mis-positioning. My doctor determined that the pain I experience now...

Put to sleep. When I was told some years ago I

would have to have a general anaesthetic for a hernia operation, I was very upset. I’d been knocked out for an operation when I was a child and had found the experience quite difficult to cope with: I hadn’t liked the idea of being helpless and unaware of what was going on...

    1. Eye surgery when I was 5 to fix my lazy eye. I hated that surgery because afterwards I had to wear an eyepatch. I was very self-conscious about it. Now I think I was dumb for thinking so. 2. Surgery to remove and extra bone out of my foot. That's an interesting story. 3. I...
