    Because of Ethnocentric Bigotry

I am Latin American now living in the UK but lived in the US for many years and my name gets misspelled AND mispronounced ALL THE TIME and it so aggravates me, especially since the root of it is plain and simple ethnocentric insensitivity. My husband's family mispronounce it all...

    Where Do I Even Begin

My dad somehow got the idea that combining an unusual(in the US,anyway)European first & middle name would guarantee I'd grow up to be a concert pianist or the next Mozart or something and it didn't even register that it went awful with our hillbilly-sounding surname.Plus he...

Not so much with my first name,

more so with my last name because it is fairly uncommon. But it is not long or complicated and it seems like it would be easy to say. It is said pretty much as it looks.

    Yeah It Annoys Me Badly.

I tell people how to say my name and they don't listen, it is as if they think I don't know how to pronounce it. It is said exactly how it is spelt. The thing is, these same people will pronounce my shortened nickname right? It annoys me so much because my name is from my...
