I Have a Fear of Flying

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 146 People

    I didn't always. I traveled a lot growing up;

plenty of overseas flights under my belt. But my husband has always been terrified of flying. For this reason, we haven't flown anywhere in several years. Now his phobia seems to have rubbed off on me and it's making me dread an upcoming flight. The logical side of me knows it's...

    Letting Go

In my dreams, I would fly. I would lift my hands and soar to the heavens. I would go through clouds and laugh. It was carefree and happy. I felt free of my burdens. As soon as I got used to this euphoria, reality shattered it. I came back to life. It was 12:41 pm when I got the...

Hi :) Does anyone have any advice on how to

getting over the fear of flying? Background Story When I was young, I didn't have any fear of flying at all. I was fine with it, and I travelled quite a lot. However when I was 15 I was travelling from Thailand to Kenya on a youth leadership tour. We got into the air and were...

Not To Mention The Food Is Nasty

I didn't used to when I was young (I was okay with flying back then, but take off and turbulence was quite nerve racking), but after some recent contemplation, I realise that there are a few things to worry about. I am slightly terrified now...I have to go on a plane in two days...

    To Close For Comfort

Many years ago, I use to fly everywhere. I was pregnant with my daughter and I was to fly to San Diego. I asked the airline to let me know if there was an opening any sooner. They called me 2 days before my other scheduled flight and I left for San Diego. After arriving there, 2...

I had always struggled then read a great book

which helped so much that I flew 4 - 5 times a year. In fact one time I was chatting to the person next to me so intently I didn't even notice the plane take off! Then I had a lot of stressful events which led to me 10yrs later not being able to board a plane through panic. Now...

I came down with a crippling fear of flying out of nowhere, and this was after having flown many times both short and long distance. I would cry and cling to my then husband's arm during takeoff, would be paralyzed with fear during the flight regardless of turbulence (and when...

I've never been on a plane before.

Ever. But it scares me at the thought. I watched tons of horror movies and I mean tons. Some of them are on a plane and they die! World War Z, some goosebumps, and twilight show... What if I do get on a airplane. I'm also scared of hights...

It's only come on in the last couple of years.

Before then, I was always a little anxious, but once it was fully airborne, I could relax. But now it's an actual fear.

Yes. I guess I do. I prefer to call it common

sense, but it's probably fear. I don't want to fly. First, I dislike airports. Second, when I travel, I want my stuff to arrive when I do. Not three weeks after I get home; after a trip through 16 countries I've never had the chance to visit. Third, if I can't get home to my...

    Terrified Of Flying

I've never flown. I get anxiety just at the thought of flying. It's too bad too because I would really love to travel and see the world. It feels like it's a control thing. If I'm in a car or on a bus and there's an accident I feel like I may still have some control and be able...

I have to fly in a couple of weeks

and I'm really worried about it. I'm going on vacation cruise and need to fly to the port city. It's so illogical to me to be so worried when I should be excited but I am. I want to relax and enjoy myself. I keep running it over in my mind. It's very stressful.

Flying Is Horrible... But I Want It To Be Wonderful /-:

I fly at least once every year and when I was young I had no problems. But two years ago I started to become a bit afraid and now I am scared shitless! There is no better way to describe it... In August I am going to fly to Kenya. I was there before in 2008 but now I am much...

There is nothing natural about a 30 ton hunk of

metal floating 50,000 feet off the ground. I refuse to fly. I don't care if I won an all expense paid vacation to Hawaii, I will not get on a plane. If I was forced to fly, I would have to be drugged up or drunker than a white girl at a frat party to be able to stay remotely...
