I Have a High Pain Tolerance

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 1,227 People

I usually don't like bringing this subject up

since in always turns into a macho, one-up contest (women do this too and often play the child birth trump card) or a gruesome recounting of the painful experiences everyone in the room has had. I'm not really proud of this anymore due to all the lousy stuff I went through to...

    Call Me Crazy

Call me crazy but I like the feeling of being in pain. Due to my past experiences with pain raging from having a 2nd degree burn, a back condition and etc, the littlest bit of pain doesn't affect me anymore. My motto in life and my usual catch phrase to anyone who's in pain would...

"Pain" Some people say child birth is the worse

kind of pain. While others swear they are dying because of a paper cut. Regardless pain is pain. We can let it overcome us or we can overcome it. We are so quick to run to our medicine cabinet to cure our pain while others have to suffer through it everyday. Imagine the slaves...

I got my left armed burned

when I was about 4 and never even winced until my mom noticed and tried to clean it. Ever since I have kinda not felt any pain, this has been quite useful for me when I used to do parkour and fighting. I can take a decent amount of blows before feeling any pain.

I have a really high tolerance

for pain so when I go to the doctor and tell them I am in pain, it's like I'm seeking pain meds. Trust me, I have a huge fear of becoming addicted to them, so when I'm in pain, I AM IN PAIN. the. There are times when they will pound on me asking me if it hurts and I say no, so...

I can handle physical pain very well.

From hurting myself from clumsiness, I was bullied very bad at school, I have been bashed to a pulp, I have even bashed my own head in, I burnt myself, and stabbed myself in the arm (that was to scare off a serious ambush in the street and did they all run from me). I have a very...

    Depending on the situation,

I've trained my brain to tell my body that the pain feeling, is actually a good feeling like a tickle or something. works most the time

    It Scares My Fiance...

It scares my fiance when she hears stories of thing that happen to me, but it scares her more when she sees things happen to me that should hurt, and I either don't notice, it itches, or it tickles. She started paying attention to my pain tolerance when she heard the story of me...

    Perhaps...

Maybe I do, maybe I don't... I'd like to think I do, as masochistic as that sounds. I don't think I realized just *how* high my pain tolerance was, until I had my son. I was in labor only ten hours... Relatively short, for my first child (or so I've been told), and only a few...

    Pain is just a feeling,

if you train yourself to associate it with good; it won't "hurt". It will just be that, stingy, sharp feeling that you've come to love.

    Add 2

Medical types seem to be forever asking me to "rate your pain on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the worst you can imagine."  The ones that have worked with me for a long time know to automatically add 2 to whatever number I say.  It's not that I deliberately understate...

I didn't really even realise, I just thought it was a bad ache, it was at school so I had to walk around, and I did, I didn't even flinch once. I even ran around, albeit a little reluctantly, but I didn't cry out in pain. I think that's the wrong response though...

    High Pain Tolerance Proof

The topic of an individual's high pain tolerance is often met with skepticism, and rightly so. The vast majority of people appear to be self conscious in the fact that they all claim to have a high pain tolerance. If we all have acquired this trait, then we really only have...
