Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 167 People

    Eeeeep!

Eh public speaking...never liked it at all! We always had to do it in English class which wasn't too bad. I mean you know the people in your class for the most part so the fear kinda dissipates. Then one day my teacher decides we are going to speak in front of a college class...

    Terrible...

I am terrified of public speaking. I have taken a zero on projects and reports because I am too scared to talk in front of a group. It's not fun. I have a picture of my junior kindergarten class, up on stage singing a song. Everyone was wearing hats and had rosy red cheeks...

Becoming A Tutor - Public Speaking

I work for a well known charity interviewing people and doing behind the scenes admin work.  I have now been asked if I would like to train to be a tutor, which would involve talking to groups of people and showing them how to do things.  I can show them how to do things but...

    Terrible Speaker

Ahhhhhhhh I can't even tell how much I hate speeches!!!!!! Everything about it makes me so nervous especially when I'm being called up to do my speech I work on for weeks  and even then I'm going insane. I noticed that this is also crippling my average talks with people...

I had a presentation to do in class.

And my voice was shaky through the whole thing. Sounded like I was about to cry. I'm enrolled in speech class and I skip every time a speech is due. It's hard getting over it. :(

    It Helps Me :)

I normally have a really hard time with public speaking but i've found that removing myself, mentally, before i speak really helps :) you don't have to go full-on meditation lol I start with just relaxing myself in my chair, focus on breathing (evenly and slowly) from my...

    There Is Hope

Get your doctor to prescribe propranolol. Actors and musicians with stage fright use it. It doesn't keep you from feeling nervous and doesn't make you feel drugged; but it does block the adrenal response that leads to panic, sweating, shaking, and blushing. It's a real life saver...

    It's Hell

I think pretty much anyone with social phobia will have a phobia of public speaking, like me. Man, I just get so nervous. My heart starts beating hard, I tense up, my face starts to twitch, I get really hot and shaky. It's the worst possible feeling in the world. Just...

    Speech Time

I can honestly say that public speaking is one of my worst phobias. It's completely dreadful and the second I hear the words "presentation" or "speech" I cannot think, move or do anything the same way. I'm a wreck by the time the speeches have to be presented. I see everyone...

    Oral Communications Class

I had to take a speech class at my community college and thought it was going to be the death of me. I'm a quiet, shy girl that wants to be far, far away from the center of attention. Lucky for me, there was a way to bypass talking in front of a class. I could take it online. I...

    I'm at desperation point.

I just got promoted to a position of management in a big company which involves a lot of presentations to upper management and directors and the thought freaks me out. I should be delighted with the new job and while I know I can do the job, it's the public speaking side...

    I Can't Breathe

and I shake and I can't hold my papers or whatever I'm holding and I can't think and I skip big chunks and say "like" and "ummmmmmmm" soo much and forget to breathe but feel good at the end, I GOT IT OVER WITH! YES. Who cares about what people thought? I hate it and feel...

    Uhh....yeah...uhh..

I hate, no, loathe, public speaking. The thought of it makes me completely sick. Ugh. I see why it is useful, but I'm terrible at it. I get all nervous and anxious and then I rush through the entire thing just to get it over with. Then I just feel like a failure afterwards. I...

    Black Out.

When I was in 4th grade I was chosen to participate in a Spelling Bee. I was excited and couldn't wait. The only problem was: I had stage fright. Now usually, people would tell you to pretend that the people in the audience were stuffed animals or to close your eyes and pretend...
