I Miss Her Most When I Am With Her

I miss my grandmother very much these days but the saddest thing is I miss her most when I am with her.  I spent the last four days taking care of her but taking care of her physically seems easy compared to trying to care for her emotional needs. She is just so unhappy and...

    My grandma has Alzheimer's disease.

She was diagnosed four years ago, and has progressively advanced to the stage where she no longer knows her own children (the fact that she still continues to know who I am is astounding.) She was just placed in a very nice facility, where she'll receive all sorts of therapy...

    Alzheimers On Vacation

Background: We were on vacation in Cape Cod, MA, with Grammy, who had Alzheimer’s. It was a particularly up and down day. Grammy, sometimes you can be so funny – 88 years old yet so child-like. You will sit, lost in thought, lost in place. What an awful feeling...

This Is For The Stongest Person I Know

People might say I shouldn't be so affected by this considering it's my great grandma and she's 91 years old. But those people don't understand. My grandma has been my role model ever since she patiently explained to a 2 year old me that she can't speak the "nice language...

Alzheimers Has Been Good To My Grandma.

It sounds crazy to say that but truthfully it has. My Grandma has always been the most cheerful and kind woman, while my grandpa has had a little bit more of a hard exterior. I've lived with my grandparents, and I spent every Christmas with them. We used to go up to there trailer...

Actually I Have Lots of Alzheimers In My Family

My dad's side of the family almost all have it. My mothers side of the family all have cancer. So I got cancer, which will probably mean I will not be alive long enough to get the Alzheimers. This is a good thing. I have seen my aunts and uncles slowly turn back into children...

My dad past away 5 years ago at 80 from this

insidious disease. What I never realised was that it is not just about the person losing their memory, but that the body begins to forget how to work - breathe, swallow, bowels, walk. I am a firm believer in euthanasia. My father would not have wanted to disintegrate like he did...
