Possums are lovely, for the most part. A bit of a PROBLEM when they decide to move in, but it's hardly their fault that humans make their nests with what looks like an upstairs appartment reserved for possums. Plus, you got to give anything with a built-in pocket a bit of cred...

    Don't Know Why,

but I am fond of possums. Our local nature center had an old one (it was two years old; that's ANCIENT for a possum). It was one of the sweetest things I've ever met. Completely benign and cuddly. Found one at my boarding stable the other day. They are pretty doofusy. This one...

    Not Playing Dead

One summer when I left the door open an opossum invited itself in. When I closed the door and tried to go to sleep later I heard rustling. Finally I saw the pointy nose looking at me when I turned on the light - it was too afraid to emerge but bold enough not to hide. I talked to...

    One Of My Favorite Animals.

They're so cute. I hate when people think they're "giant, diseased rats" they're actually in the marsupial family; related to kangaroos. Not rats. And as for diseased? they're a lot more resistant to rabies than most other wild animals. I think possums are lovely, lovely...

    They. Freak. Me. Out.

The first time I saw a possum, I thought it was a giant rat from the bowels of hell, and I screamed (embarrassingly) like a banshee.  Once it was explained to me what they were, and that they were essentially harmless (ahem, I knew that), I started to wonder why their...

    I Save Possums!

I live in an area that has recently started developing at a fast rate and because of that I get a lot of wild animals that come into my neighborhood. Possums are quite a common visitor but they have very unusual reactions to being moved from their space. I've found about three in...

    Talk About Creepy!!!

One dark summer night, I was sitting out on the front porch. I have 2 cats.....one is gray and the other is multi-color. Well, all I could see was a gray animal coming up the steps. I thought it was my gray cat coming up to eat. Instead....I saw this weird body with a slinky...
