I Have Add

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 231 People

I was diagnosed with ADD 3 years ago.

When I did get diagnosed, I saw it as some sort of great tragedy to my intelligence. Now, I'm just trying to see it as a good thing. I'm tired of all this "you have a mental disorder and that is unfortunate" ****. There are benefits, y'know: 1. Curiosity- From my own...

    Never Understood

When I was in elementary school, I was unable to stay on top of things. I was always behind in my subjects and could never focus. My mother was abusive and that made my life at home very hard. By grade 5 I was to far gone academically to catch up. I somehow made it through...

I Am a Woman With Adult Add

About eight years ago I was diagnosed with ADD after my son was diagnosed a few months earlier.  It was somewhat of a relief for me after living my life thinking I wasn't very smart and that I was different.  Low self-esteem and anxiety were, and still are at times...

    Nobody Seems To Understand It

I remember always getting in trouble in class for not being on task. Teachers would call me out by my name and say to get to work and made the whole class stare at me. Even when I get my work done before everybody else I get in trouble. It helps to to pace myself at a fast pace...

    It's So Frustrating.

I've never been diagnosed, but I fit the description of an ADD sufferer, with problems mainly in the area of being distractable.  I have a terribly hard time focusing on one task.  When I clean my room, it's hard for me to focus on doing one thing--one moment I'm...

    I Have It Too

I never had a problem with concentration growing up but I'd find myself spacing out at work and not being able to focus.  I am happy because I take Adderall and now I can take XR because it has a generic and I can afford it. It works for me.

    Self Medicating

I grew up with attention deficit disorder but I was not diagnosed until well into adulthood. You can probably guess that it was the cause of many disruptive behaviours but none to the extent of that which lead me to become an alcoholic. I had no idea that I was self...

I Was Diagnosed 14 Years Ago...

ADD is so hard to deal with in general but much harder as a child. I really hate the fact that a majority of people in this world claim to have ADD. Just because you are forgetful and cant pay attention does not mean you have ADD. I was tested on many many different machines...

    Snowballed Down Hill

I hated the day I was diagnosed with ADD. I hated my parents. I hated the doctors. I didn't want anything to do with any of them. They started me on Adderall which was the beginning of my downfall. It made me nervous, all the time. It was so bad I picked at my cuticules all...
