I Have Alcoholics In My Family

    My Brother

He is recovering, I am so revealed. He is detoxed right now, he is so different then he has been the last few years. I am happy to be getting my brother back. I hope he does not go back to his previous constantly intoxicated state, I don't think I can take it.

    A Lot Of My Family

A lot of members in my family are alcoholics, and not the kind that go " oh I drank one day boy I am such an alcoholic " but the kind that think nothing of it and drink themselves to bad health, or near death and then drink some more. I hate watching them do it to them self's...

I'm terrified that I'll end up slipping up

and drinking just like him. I don't want to end up like that, it's no life. I don't want to end up coming home everyday drunk, and taking out my anger on my terrified stepchild. I don't want to be like that, not at all. I'm staying away from the drink, just to be on the safe...

    On Both Sides.

As a child I never let the fact affect me much. I just avoided the relative who always had the beer in his hand. This is the same man who backhanded me for playfully sticking my tongue out at him as a child. Growing older, it began to bother me, and I started noticing it more...

I don't know if you would say he's my family.

But I do consider my boyfriend and his brother and sister(they're like my siblings) as family. My boyfriends dad is an alcoholic. I do not approve of it. He's constantly drinking and my boyfriend will say "I bet you my dad will pick me up with like 3 beers in the car". Just the...

Being surrounded by alcoholics is the worst

thing, because they cannot be mentally, or emotionally present. I have to face this reality in my family. I have learned that distancing myself from these people is the best thing for me, and I shouldn't feel bad about that, because it doesn't mean I don't love them.

I Held On So Tight, He Slipped Right Through My Hands.

Is there anyone out there that can explain to me how alcohol/addiction makes a full grown man give up EVERYTHING he's ever worked for? My husband of 22 years started drinking heavily four years ago. He drinks 7 days a week, approximately 6 to 10 drinks a night, beer, hard liquor...

alcoholism, and there's nothing I can do about it. I hate him now. He even has brain damage, he drinks so much. I just don't understand how a person can do that to themselves, and to others they supposedly love.

that he's my Grandma's caregiver, because she has Alzheimer's, but my grandpa comes home drunk every night. It's not really helping anything, especially my grandma. The alcohol isn't helping make him a better caregiver. It's also raising HIS risk for dementia. Ironic, isn't it?
