    Winwick Church

Captain Edward John Smith married Sarah Eleanor, daughter of William Pennington, at St. Oswald's Church in Winwick, Cheshire in the UK. They would first live at Spar Cottage in Winwick. I grew up in the village and as kids, we all knew about the connection with Titanic and were...

    Titanic Experience

My husband and I went to a Titanic Exhibit at the Cleveland Science Center. At the beginning of the tour they gave you a piece of paper with a name on it and what class cabin you were staying in. These were actual real people who were on the ship! We were amazed to see many...

I've always felt this inexplicable connection

to TITANIC... Yes, I am a history buff, but it goes beyond that. It's so much more than a subject of interest for me. It's a major part of my life. It feels as though my heart went down with the ship and that it remains there to this day. Does anyone else feel this way?

    Well There Is a Reason...

I live in Belfast, my skyline view from my apartment is of the river and in the background the cranes in the shipyard where the Titanic was built. Today at lunch, like I do most weeks, I go round there and sit and eat my sandwich, looking out over the expanse of wasteland that...

    Too Big To Fail?

I regard the Titanic as an object lesson for the world today, particularly the world of finance and banking. Why should the government guarantee banks against collapse due to financial mismanagement? It does not make sense to reward unsustainable business practice. When the bank...

    Light Depression

When I was 7, I saw the Titanic (1997) for the first time. I was too young to realise what was going on. All I remembered then were images of two lovers having sex and a sinking ship. I was so clueless and innocent. On Saturday I was at my friend's house and we decided to watch a...

Next Year Marks 100 Years Since Her Loss

April 15th, 2012 will mark one hundred years since RMS Titanic's loss. More than 1500 souls perished when she went down. Her sinking was to have an impact on maritime safety like no other vessel before or since. As a result of this disaster, international safety standards were to...

What We Learned From The Sinking Of Titanic

Many things have come to light following the sinking of the RMS Titanic ! Some within minutes of her slipping beneath the waves; nothing is unsinkable, and , bad things happen to 'rich people' too ! Other lessons surfaced over the days, weeks and months which followed, and...

I love studying about these large ships. All three were built at Harland and Wolf Shipyards,Belfast,Northern Ireland. They were sister ships but Titanic was slighty bigger at 883 feet long,a four funnel mail steamer. She displaced 58,000 tons. All three are lost now.Titanic of course...

We did a lesson on it in history, and I was hooked. It really shows how people treated each other. I was horrified to hear about the crew barricading the third class people away from the lifeboats. I also think it's daft how most of the lifeboats left half full. No wonder so many...

    Curious Facts

Although most passengers on the Titanic had to share bathrooms (only the two promenade suites in first class had private bathrooms), third class had it rough with only two bathtubs for more than 700 passengers.

Titanic Was Not The Worst Passenger Ship Disaster In History

Titanic was a horrible sea going disaster, but it was not the worst by a long shot. The worst acually occurred with the sinking of the Wilhelm Gusthoff in January of 1945. Almost 10,000 people actually lost their lives. I had not heard of the disaster till recently. The reason we...
