My dads side of the family is nothing but Italians.
Before they came here they lived in New York.
Now, I've never been to New York, but because my dad grew up there he had an accent and some where down the line him teaching me how to talk gave me a New York accent.
I'm the only...
I'm just curious as to how this is even a group... Doesn't everyone have an accent? I live in the northwest of America, and to myself I don't have an accent but to someone from say the UK, Australia, Ireland, etc. I have an accent. In America there are southern accents and east...

and when I meet someone new from a different background than my own they tend to right me off as dumb by the way that I speak. I don't know why but it really irks me. I love listening to someone speak with a different accent. Does that ever happen to you?

It has a tendency to bring out the 'green eyed jealousy monster' in my spouse!!!!
Well... the accent, plus being a bit of a flirt! LOL
and my mom has a slightly thicker Hawaiian one. Couple that with being raised on the west coast, and you get my accent. I get weird looks whenever I say something, so I've been training myself out of it. It comes back every so often though.
especially the people who think they don't!
'Ahhhh jaaaaaast laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave yer aaaack-sent, but I caaaaan't unnerstand a wooooooooooooooooooorrrd yer sayin'.'
Ok. But since I just had to figure out what you were saying, you can figure out what I said!
Okay, well, everyone has an accent, how’s that? Better? No one being summed out. =P It’s weird thought to hear what people say about my voice and what accent they think I have when I speak English. Not that I even ask – I’m just told. The first time I spoke to...
In my neck of the woods, people have a hillbilly, southern Twa-y-ng. We eat Taters and Maters, Worsh Winders, and spank misbehaving kids with Fly Flaps. -"WHAT"- rhymes with Nut. See here... W-u-u-t?! ( I tole you so!). Hay is for horses... and Hello!
I didn't realize...
My dad has a country accent. I have like a New Jersey accent; NOT like the people from Jersey Shore. When I say words with the short a sound, it comes out sounding like a long a. Like when I say the word 'water'. Don't ask! 😫
that weird , I'm from Brooklyn New York but its not the typical accent you would hear on TV. I would say "New Yoark" i pronounce water like "wader" and i used words like "mad" and "son" haha which is typical New York Talk.
