I Have Dermatographia

Dermatographic urticaria (also known as dermographism, dermatographism or "skin writing") 47 People

    I "HAD" dertmatographia.

When I was 17 years old, I was diagnosed with dermatographia. I'm not exactly sure how it happened but I think it was because of an antibiotic or it may have been because of I started to exercise after a very long time. I would scratch myself and would see lines of the marks...

I thought at first that there is nothing wrong

with my skin and everyone else has dermatographia. I don't even know what it was until last Tuesday. Whenever I'm sleepy during the Holy Eucharist I write letters on my hand to avoid drifting off. The swelling completely vanishes after almost an hour.

    i hated mi skin ever

since i got dermatographia, i just couldn't find the bright side, until one day, in a model agency they called me for a shooting in which an artist would draw beautiful patterns on my skin, now i know it has a good side!

    Causes, Cures, And Remission.

I have had dermatographia for just a few months. I found my way to this site mostly out of fear; that eventually my zyrtec would stop working and that my dermatographia would not go into "remission" so to speak. I believe my DG to have been brought on by an allergy to...

It flares a lot when I'm stressed.

Some nights while I wait for the Zyrtec to kick in, I just sit in a tub full of water until I don't wish I could unzip my skin and step out.

    So, basically, dermographia sucks.

I can't itch my skin at all without getting welts and a rash that lasts at least 20 minutes. And it burns. It's uncomfortable. I was diagnosed and prescribed Zyrtec, but it hardly does anything. People think it's cool and they scratch me with their nails to watch my skin...

I am trying to study at the library,

but I'm itching all over. I took a benadryl and decided to google support groups for dermatographia and I found this site. My story begins when I went to the ER after eating shrimp fried rice (three tiny little bitty shrimp changed my life). I went to sleep, woke up with...

    Hate It

One day I started itching really bad. I had hives and red welts all over my body. Went to the doctor the next day who diagnosed me with dermatographia. She gave me a steroid shot and prescribed me some antihistamine pills. I try not to take them everyday but on days that I don't...

    Everything Makes Sense Now

I just found out yesterday that I had it. I found out what it was when looking on the funny site unfriendable, and it intrigued me so I googled it to see what it was in detail. And sure enough, it explained the weird symptoms I'd been having for years. It's a relief to finally...

One day my skin started itching severly. To the point that I was almost on my knees from the pain of itching. This itching continued for a few days, then I started welting up wherever I scratched. I look this up on the internet and found pictures of other people welting up...

    My Life With Dermatographia

I first realized that something was different with me, when my mom picked me up from ballet class, in 8th grade and asked what had happened. Unbeknownst to me, I had raised welt-like claw marks up all over my back, where I had scratched during ballet class. Fast forward, I am...

I broke out with dermatographic 1.

5 years ago but it was controlled by Zyrtec 1/2 every few days. It was pretty much gone. Just an occasional itch with no appearance. 2 Fridays ago it came back and worse than ever. On top of the hives I was getting severe chest and back pain as well as sweats and shakes. I took...

I've been in so much pain.

I went to the er today. My EKG showed a few deviations but nothing significant. My bp was up again. I was covered in sweat and hives. End result....still no clue why my chest and back hurt so much. They gave me a morphine shot and nausea pills. They called me in pain meds and...

    I have had dermatographia

for about a month now... reading stories of people that have had it for years amazes me and I admire their strength... it's hard. I'm itchy all the time and most people dismiss it being because of stress. Here is my story. Within a month I had one friend commit suicide and my...

Lol people would look at my skin like "Oh my

god, what happened?" But it's funny, because I'd look at their skin like "They're scratching, but theirs no welts?" 😂😂 I never used to think anything was wrong with my skin, at all.. & I thought it was normal because I'm soooo used to it. I've had this since about 2005...
