I Have Difficulty Throwing Things Away

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 402 People

    That's How I Am

I tend to have to hold on to things I have had for a while. I want to keep their memory.  I'm that kind of hoarder.  I don't have a very big collection of stuff, though.  My room is a little messy and I have some things in the basement and garage.  I like to watch the shows...

    Clearer Now

It began with two cupboards, i started sorting, clearing and dare i say it tossing things away. I was feeling happy but sad at the same time as these things i held on to for reasons and letting go of these things was like thearapy. A good friend came round and helped me pop some...

It's Hard To De-junk Your Life......

Until you come to the realization that your stuff owns you, not the other way around. The more stuff you have, the less freedom you have.Consider how much freedom you would have if everything you needed could fit in a backpack. If you needed to move, you'd be done in 5 minutes...

    My Collection

I have difficulty throwing things away as well. For me, it has something to do with the fact that I consider everything I own to have some form of sentimental value. I remember a lot of things as well, and have been told I have a photographic memory. I feel that if I throw things...

I'm somewhat of a hoarder unfortunately.

.. My mom even gives me stuff I don't even want and I have trouble even parting with that stuff.. Idk why... I need to get rid of tons of stuff... I'm too sentimental and clingy... O.o but that's a whole other matter (can of worms) entirely too... though they say it's...

    No Hoarder By Any Means

I just am not wasteful. For example,my step-dad fixed up a wooden table and it has been my kitchen table for almost 12 years and is still in great condition. Part of the reason I hold on to it is sentimental value. He passed away from lung cancer in 2001.

Sometimes I Keep Things So Long They Get Ruined..

and then I get mad at myself. Somebody could have used it! But I hung on to it for so long that the leather rotted, or mice got into it, or the elastic died, or it was crushed or something. I really have been asking myself lately, why am I keeping this when someone could be...

I Have Difficultly Throwing Quite A Few Things Away

When I was still in highschool I would write "songs" and my dad wants me to throw them away but they mean something to me and I just move them somewhere else so he doesn't bother me about it for a while.

    Junk Collector!

Heehee... my mother is a major pack rat. She doesn't throw anything away! So, I have inherited a little of that. Some things are just too sentimental to me. They're junk and take up space, but I can't seem to let go of them! :-/ For example... my first blonde boyfriend, John. He...

    Time Is Running Out!

My family is out of town right now. I took 2 days off work to rearrange my tiny bedroom, hopefully make it livable, and clear out as much junk as possible. I took some time out of the schedule for the poetry group on Thursday and a birthday party Saturday. And here I am, uh...

    Too Much Stuff!

I can't help it. I have too much stuff. I have a tough time throwing any of it away, even stuff I know I may never use again. I guess I just see too much value in it to be thrown away. I have no problem with giving it away if I know someone will be able to use it, but it's...

I hate waste. I will try to waste as little as possible. To me it is just wrong to waste what we have, when others have so little. But  sometimes that backfires. I tend to keep a lot of things, thinking "oh I can do something with it or use it for...

    My Daughter's Reaction

    Recovery - Looking Back

It has been a long time since I've thought about the pack-rat I used to be.  The hoarder I used to be.  That person doesn't fully exist anymore and its hard to believe that was the person I once was.  I haven't thought of it for a long time, until I turned on my T.V. and...

    Much Difficulty

I am basically a hoarder. I "collect" things that I do not need, but feel that I need & can not bring myself to throw them away. Just in the past year or so, I have collected jars that fruit came in, Vitamin Water bottles, 2-liter bottles, used tissue (I know-- gross), & more...
