    Teachers

Dreadlocks teach you how to be patient. How to love yourself (and all your creations) unconditionally, no matter what you may look like that day. They teach you that head massages not only feel good and are good for your dreads, but are good for your brain and body. They teach us...

    They're beautiful. I love dreadlocks.

I recently got this as an obsession. Just out of no where. I wanted to learn ALLL about them. And finally, I got dreadlocks for myself! <3

    Almost A Year

My locs will be a year old in August and I love them. Some days they look better than others but it's amazing. The only way I can explain it is I look in the mirror and I feel like I look like me. All my life I've gone through perms, afros, braids, twists, weaves, the whole nine...

    Nightmares

Every so often, I'll have a dream where my hair gets cut off or shaved (for whatever reason suits the narrative) and I just go about my life like that. I always wake up panicked and check my hair to see if they're still there. I have an unnaturally strong love for my dreadlocks...

    I'm still freeforming

but I am torn on whether or not a Caucasian can fully freeform with no separation? Will it cause problems later on or is it just like any other hair type

    I've been a grateful dreadhead

for going on 4 years and let me tell ya, it's been a trip! These babies have been with me through parties, festivals, cold hotbox sessions, everything and I would not trade them for the world. I am working towards my cosmetology license to work with alternative hair styles so...

A Book On Dreads Called Stepping Out

I have been a loctician for 24 years. Before that I was locked for 20 years, since I was 18 years old. I have seen the damage wax and jell does to the hair....Not everyone should be using these matting products that makes the locs stiff and hard. Hair should be able to breathe. I...

I've had them for about 15 years now and are to my knees. They are such a part of me, but not who I am. I am not the happy dumb tree hugging high hippy everyone thinks. In fact I'm quite the opposite, I did not do this for fashion or to be cool, its sad really cause its 15 years...

for 2 years now. I love them!! I can't imagine myself without them. I will say that it is hard to have to deal with people staring at me when I am out in public but having this hairstyle is a great way to meet people. Everyone just wants to touch my hair. I have added new things...

    Easy

Having dreadlocks is sooooo much easier than dealing with chemicals flatirons or ripping half my hair out trying to control it while it's natural. I just wish it was more acceptable in the workplace for men. I don't have that problem but it's still unfair.

    Dreadlocks

I have had a fun history of hair. I had a ponytail that went all the down to my *** before I did dreadlocks. I cut the ponytail after 8 years, donated the hair to Locks of Love, and after many years of seeing other people with dreadies decided to go for it. One of my friends...

Really Truly Loving My Hair For The First Time

I've been locked for nearly three years now and before that I was constantly engaged in hair-on-self esteem warfare. I've permed it, pressed it, curled it, braided it and covered it with wigs or scarves but till I took the leap and dreadlocked my hair I could never come to terms...

I'm thinking about getting half/the underside

of my hair turned into dreads. Do some hairstylists offer to do it for you? I tried only one dread once and it turned out poorly. Would it look okay on shoulder length hair? And most importantly, would it work well for my (fine) hair?
