Things I Wish Everyone Knew About My Allergies

Please don't bring up my allergy in public. I hate talking about it. It always happens when I'm out with a group of friends and there's that one person who I don't know too well. Food comes into the room, I decline politely, and the barrage of questions that I've almost memorized...

I have been on an elimination diet

for almost two weeks to remove all the foods to which I am allergic. I had been doing OK, but suddenly I am feeling more deprived and desiring some forbidden foods more. Is that normal?

    Pumpkin Bread Pudding

I sure miss pumpkin pie at the holiday season. I tried eating it, in spite of my food allergies, but I no longer care to pay the price. Luckily, I found a recipe for a vegan pumpkin bread pudding. Even my daughter and her hubby liked it! Yahoo! It's a little spendy, but I...

I just found out I have multiple food allergies

at 25. The things I am allergic too make it really difficult for me to work out what to do, what to eat and come to terms with the fact that I simply can't have things I've had my whole life. I need help and support in doing so but I don't know where to get the help from. I'm...

Hand selected, fragrant, firm. Perfect for the vegan tomato mayonaise described by that food Guy on TV. I was challenged to write a poem about a tomato, and I was inspired by a Guy Fieri book. I forgot to write the recipe down, so I'll have to head back to the library. I'm...

    Bob's Red Mill

We went to Bob's Red Mill today. I took my daughter, her kids, and my brother. It's in a peaceful setting with lots of geese flying low. I happily grabbed some wheat free/vegan cookies, gluten-free pie crust mix, and garbanzo bean flour (to make the veggie burgers from the recipe...

    Allergy-Free Desserts

I came across this cookbook recently, allergy-free desserts, Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Egg-free, Soy-free, and Nut-free delights, by Elizabeth Gordon. This is the first book I've found with each recipe excluding all the foremost allergens. I found 14 recipes that have my mouth...

    Restaurant Anxiety

I grew up eating in restaurants. I have missed that a lot. Tonight I was surprised to be whisked from work, out to dinner with my daughter and her family. Taken by surprise like that, my first thought was going out to Sweet Tomatoes, the only place I know I can eat without...

    Mom Was Right

My mom always told me that I was allergic to milk. She said I was on soy formula when I was a baby. She blamed my bad attitude as a teenager on my allergy to milk. I just knew she was nuts, because when you were allergic to something, you either sneezed a lot or you got a rash...

    Allergies V. Intolerances

I'm allergic to some foods and intolerant to others. I find it difficult to really know the difference, but I believe the former is an immune response and it is immediate. The latter is more an irritation to certain systems of the body. I am allergic to palm products (sugar...

    It's Not Worth It

Lately I have been craving foods on my "do not eat" list. Things have been stressful, so it's not surprising. I even gave in to temptation multiple times. I have paid for that, of course. It's just not worth it. I have tasted better health, and that's what I need.

    Just Like Pumpkin Pie!

I cooked a butternut squash the other day. I can't have dairy, so instead of butter, I top it with coconut spread. Then I add cinnamon and some raw honey. Mmm, it tastes just like pumpkin pie!

    And It's Ruined My Life.

Well, I should say it ruined my education.   I didn't realize I was allergic to dairy products and was having migraines.  I didn't know I was in pain because I was in pain all the time.  I didn't know what it felt like without it.  I'm also allergic to...

    My New Caramel

Well, with dairy out of my diet, that cut out so many yummy things to eat (and satisfy my sweet tooth with). But I had a wonderful discovery yesterday when I tried out a gluten-free pancake recipe. I haven't had pancakes for sooo long, and these were OK, though they were a bit...

    Not Bad

I found some gluten free crackers, made mainly from seeds and nuts that I am not allergic to. I paired them with an individual pouch of almond butter. I was pleasantly surprised that this was something I could see myself snacking on again. Mhm, it was not bad, not bad at all.
