I Have Had Surgery

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 708 People

When I was in elementary school,

me and my sister were at the playground. I was about to go on the monkey bars when I lost my footing and fell on my head on the blacktop. My head was gushing, I don't know how much, but I remember there being a good amount of blood. I was rushed to the hospital, which was a good...

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed not

too long ago, and let me tell you, the process of having all of them extracted at once was probably the easier part of the whole experience. The process of healing, on the other hand, was not fun for me at all. No drinking from a straw for the first few days, no hard spitting...

Ok, this is probably the wimpiest surgery known

to mankind, but in the sixth grade I had a toothpick surgically removed from my arm. My sister pushed me over in the kitchen, I knocked over the toothpick holder thing on the way down and landed so that a toothpick went all the way into my arm, I couldn't see it and it was just...

Put to sleep. When I was told some years ago I

would have to have a general anaesthetic for a hernia operation, I was very upset. I’d been knocked out for an operation when I was a child and had found the experience quite difficult to cope with: I hadn’t liked the idea of being helpless and unaware of what was going on...

I lay down so terrified, for I have no one to help me when something goes wrong. I beg and plead to be left alone. As my fear rises, my stength weakens. I fight to protect myself, but they're far too strong for me. A grown man holding down a girl, isn't exactly the...

I suppose I had surgery three times.

the first was the totally unnecessary removal of my foreskin at 10 days. Then in my60th year I had my gall bladder removed. It was done by non-invasive surgery through my navel. But it had a bad side effect and a week later I had to have my prostate cut back. I am not sure how...

    A Surgery Of Conceit

After having that horrific wreck, I had surgery. Only it wasn't the surgery you'd expect. I did have a brain injury, but I've never had any brain surgery. My surgery? It was plastic surgery. One of my eyelids was ripped off in the wreck and so it had to be reattached. My eye...
