    Lost Family Members, Met Survivors.

Not only did our family lose people in the Holocaust, I remember that one of my grandfather's friends had the ID number tattooed on his arm. I've only had one person try to tell me it never happened. He didn't like my reaction very much...

    I Have

I met some at a holocaust muesum. I recall one man's story, it was heart breaking, the trauma is must have endured. I still remember him showing us the tattoo of his branding number on his arm. A constant reminder for him I suppose, poor guy.

    Two Actually. ...

Two actually. One was a college professor of Western Civilization and the other a neighbor. In 1982, I had the good fortune to interview this professor for another class (speech) and that is how I found out he was a Jew. He showed me his tatooed numbers. He told me that he...

She Was Still Full Of Love And Life

I had an elderly friend named Lonia who survived the Nazi concentration camps. Even though scarred and tattooed, she has a lust for life, a zeal for living that few could match. She was lively, bubbly, good natured and friendly to everyone she met. I miss her. She earned her...

My Grandfather Is a Holocaust Survivor

My paternal grandfather was born in Germany in 1920 and didn't come to America until 1946.  He lost almost all of his family in the Holocaust, but by some miracle he survived Dachau, Sachsenhausen, and Auschwitz, among others. My maternal grandparents were fortunate enough...

    Schindler's List

I live on a small kibbutz in Israel. We don't have people of Holocaust age here, but some did live here for a while to be near their children, kibbutz members. One of them, an elderly man, would visit his daughter, two houses from mine. I saw him often, but not usually so close...

    He Never Spoke of It

She was a customer. Her arm still showed the number tattoo. Amazing that despite so many killed, so many survived. Testament to human endurance. Humbling experience.
