not often, but because of my past sometimes i

go thru spells where i have occasional panic attacks. i'm not sure exactly what triggers them. they're usually pretty random, but it almost always has something to do with my past. i think i handle them pretty well, though.

and they are getting more and more frequent. My problem is if the window in a room is not properly opened and the door is closed I panic. I have other triggers too but I eliminate them if I can. So the other day I was in the second session of the lesson in my uni. Prof closed...

    For me they are embarrassing

because they are accompanied by suspicion. That's when I get in EP and ask a lot of weird questions and people think I'm crazy. It's embarrassing because I'll stop trusting my family, co-workers etc. only when it passes can I look at it logically and realize I was in an...

I "used" To Have Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are horrible. I used to have them from my early teens and off and on throughout my life until a few years ago. I travel often for a living and I was driving down the road when I had my last panic attack (chest pains included). I pulled off on the side of the road...

My first panic attack was in the 8th grade.

I was leaning on my desk in English class, and all of a sudden I felt really sad and like I couldn't breathe. I started to cry, but I didn't understand why so I cried even harder. I ended up sitting in the back of another teacher's classroom for 2 hours until she yelled at me to...

I've had a panic attack at least twice a year

now for half a decade and it's always irritated me that people don't understand how frightening they are. Yes, I know it's in my head and that there's no real danger but that's the thing: it's because I know that that it's so scary. What's worse is that people make light of it...

    I don't get them personally.

But I know people that do. Try this. First, look around you. Find 5 things you can see. Then 4 things you can touch. Then 3 things you can hear. Then 2 things you can smell. And finally 1 thing you can taste. It calms you down. Grounds you.

Just a reminder: Panic attacks cannot hurt you.

No matter how bad your panic attack is, you will come out on the other side alive and unharmed. It is just your body reacting to stress. Yes, it’s unhelpful and scary and feels like s.hit, but you actually will be okay.
