I'm having trouble when I sleep.

I wake up in so much pain sometimes I can't even open my jaw because it hurts so bad. Does anyone else have this problem. If so have you found a way to sleep that makes it less painful in the morning?

The symptoms became noticeable when I was twelve. I am now thirteen and getting treatment. I used to be in constant pain, but after six months of seeing a chiropractor I've been hurting less and less. However, sometimes (because I am quite active) something will bash against the...

    My Sister Does.

About a month ago, my sister woke up and could hardly open her mouth.  She has barely been able to open it since.  She can barely chew.  Today she went to the doctor and they diagnosed her with Tmj.  She is going to have to go to an oral surgeon now.  I...

    Snap, Crackle, Pop

Technically, the term for this group should be "TMD," for temporomandibular disorder, or at least "TMJD"; EVERYBODY has "TMJ" (the temporomandibular joint), else we wouldn't be able to open our mouths! For as long as I can remember, my jaw has made snapping noises on the right...

To Look On A Funny Side

I remember it first started hurting when I was ten. I tried to chew a peanut and my jaw cracked. I was so scared I didn't move for twenty minutes. Then went back to my business. One day in Grade ten, I yawned in class. My jaw popped and my mouth was stuck open for an hour before...

I Can't Open My Mouth Anymore.

Having TMJ/TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) was never much of an issue when I was younger. I grew up fairly poor and going to the dentist wasn't a frequent event, but I was able to. When I turned 18 and my name was no longer under my mothers insurance, so my chances of...

Healing Tmj Is Not a Step, It's a Process.

I am very clumsy, and fell right on my face when I was 14, fracturing both sides of my jaw and my chin. My jaw was wired shut for two months. At 23, I was in a car accident that aggravated the injury threw me into severe TMJ. It started with a terrible headache in my temple that...

It is frustratingly temporary, but I have found that the most effective treatment for my tmj pain has been to get botox injections. I don't even have to wear my mouth guard at night for 3 months...then it wears off. Rats!
