First Time On AT In '09

Last Sunday I hiked a short distance on the AT.  Eating lunch on a large rock outcropping, facing east, I saw patches of snow and ice on the the north facing slopes below us.  The temperature at the time was 65F, which made the small, frozen waterfall we came...

    Traveling Through History

Sitting in traffic, staring at palm trees I thought of how nice it would be to return to a portion of the Appalachian Trail.  Turning off the music, I tried to recall exactly where I had been along the Trail. I  was amazed to learn there were eight states...

    Not Far

The AT runs not far from here. I have been aching to hike some of it. For Christmas, my BIL got me the book, Into the Woods by Bryson. Fun read. Now I really want to go.

    Just A Verry Short Part

I think, all things considered, that the length of the Appalachian Trail that I have hiked is amazingly small compared to the length of Pacific Crest Trail I have hiked - which itself is a tiny length. After all I've lived in Maryland, a state crossed by the AT, for almost thirty...

A Few Hundred Miles In 1997

I hiked from Springer Mountain GA, almost to Hot Springs NC before having to stop. I hope to finish some day, or at least complete some section hikes. I'm coming for that 100-Mile Wilderness, Maine!

It's a Significant Resource For All...

I've been luckily enough to have lived adjacent to, or very convenient to the Appalachian Trail most of my life, and have hike it on and off for most of that time. I've been able to take advantage of one of the most impressively beautiful resources in the eastern US and have day...
