My Man Godfrey -- In The Public Domain

http://www.bnwmovies.com/I found one of the greatest comedies ever online, even downloadable, on the Black and White Movies web site. I watched it again the other day. I have always thought William Powell was extraordinary, but I paid more attention to Carol Lombard this time. I...

    There Are Many To Mention

There are so many good stories.  Usually those with Johnny Depp and Leonardo di Caprio, too. I love stories which is not more likely to show the real genre.  I mean, like love stories which do not seem to be love stories but they are (e.g.  The Tourist, The Village, many...

    My Man Godfrey

Maybe not THE best, but certainly way up there.  William Powell is probably my favorite actor of the period.  Anybody else seen it?

    Lots of great contenders.

...... Personally I think it better to have an appreciation of many rather than a definitive one!!! That said. SAFETY LAST. Harold Lloyd. From the 1930's stands out. Everything you see in this movie is real!! No stuntmen! That really is him hanging of that clock face...

I saw Patton again last night.  Jerry Goldsmith and the Royal Scottish Orcestra were excellent.  The acting was outstanding, but the music clinched it.  Super haunting.  It's still going through my head today.

Best Tv Movie Of All Time

I think maybe it is Twelve Angry Men, but then there have been others.  I think TV movies get dumped on because they are made for the small screen, but many are better than the doo-doo that gets foisted on the public in the theaters.  Since I don't watch cable or...

What Makes A Movie The Best Of All Time

Here is what I think makes a movie the greatest ever: Stands the test of time.  That means at least fifteen or twenty years.  Styles and tastes change.  If a movie is still appealing even after the cinimatography, subject matter, actors, score, etc. are no...

    It Happened One Night

This Capra film starred Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable (both doing their penance for some studio crimes and misdemeanors).  It was made in the early 1930s.  It was the second film to sweep the Academy Awards.  It is unbelievably funny.  I still sing the...

    Good-bye, Mr Chips

I caught the last half of the 1939 version this evening.  Oh my, seventy-one years, and so many of the jokes are still funny.  So many points still valid today.  I wish some of the sentiment of those times (my grandparents') still existed today.
