I love to hear new types of music and see what the world holds. Yet i run into the same problem, i cant seem to find any. I try to expand my music horizon but i always come up short. I try pandora but that only goes so far. My friends tend to listen to the same music and really never know about anything new.

so any suggestions about how to find new music?

After typing in types of music you want to get, go the the tree rather than the one by one thing, it's more helpful, I think.

I like hype machine a lot (hypem dot com).  Also check out LaLa dot com, SoundCloud dot com, and as lame as it might sound... myspace...the place where your friends used to be.  There's actually a lot of new music still being added to the myspace music site.

last.fm it bases suggestions off of similar artists and provides a radio. I found it much better than pandora.

If possible, try to find places in your area where bands play. There are alot of different bands out there with their own unique sound. You may not be able to download them, but its a great experience.

There are lots of independent music networks now, if you want to find great music that isn't and may not ever be mainstream.

I have gotten to know a few local musicians in the past couple years.

Here is my favorite: http://www.reverbnation.com/phillipskains.

I hope you enjoy it.
