    One Awesome Christmas Gift!

I discovered it as if it had been hidden and forgotten beneath the Christmas tree still waiting desperately to be opened.  Although, in reality, it was a front page story that I’d wandered across while sipping my coffee on the morning of the 27th.  There was a...

I have hiked both in Europe

as well as the US and Canada. Being in the USMC for 18 years has given me an opportunity to enjoy hiking around the world. I did a personal best of 60 straight miles in the Great Smoky Mountains during the spring . I have also hiked in the Rocky Mountains north of Denver. Some...

At home in Norway my family are keen hikers.

I have gone hiking since being here in England. I have tried the high Weald, and the Devils Dyke, I have also been to the Giants Causeway. Hiking is great!

I got a wild hair yesterday and,

this morning at 7:30, hit the trail. Snow was still on the ground so I wore my boots - the boots that I haven't worn this year - so they ate my feet and I changed my target from arriving home around 2:00 to arriving home around noon. I made it back at 12:30.I took Bear Creek...

Another snow hike. I was hoping we'd get

another snow before the summer so I could hike to the mountains in the snow. The last snow didn't stick for a day so I walked the 10 miles to Morrison without snow. Then it snowed Wednesday and it stuck so I decided to hike up Mount Carbon.I had a good hike. I'm feeling great...

    Long Distance Hiker

Over seven years ago; I was Letterboxing on Dartmoor(Devon / UK); and I met an old git; who had a winter jacket on; a woollen cap and fleece gloves on; and this was the 4th of July.  He seemed to know where he was going; and he plodded along; on his trail poles. ...

Another hike along the blue dot trail at

mashmucket state park. "wolf den"Lovely day for it. Fairly warm (By my standards, most others were still bundled up. I'm in a t-shirt and vest.) biggest complaint was the trail had softened up from the rain and sunshine. More often then not I went through the packed stuff...

    I like hiking and backpacking.

I start with day hikes as soon as the weather gets nice, then backpack and spend a night or two on the trail. There are so many things to see and explore.

I consider myself to have been overprotected

when I was a kid. We went places as a family, but for instance, when we went to North Carolina to screen for gems, there was a rumor that here was a snake up on the ridge and my folks didn't want me to leave the area where everyone was. I was with the Boy Scouts for a short...

I spent a year when I was 19 hiking from the

east coast (Virginia beach) to San Diego. The second time I did it I was 22, it was from Seattle to Bangor Maine. I've always felt so free and so myself out on those quiet trails. Since then I have hiked many trails and seen so much. Just in smaller doses. But I'll always think...
