One of my resue hens is poorly. I went out to put them away and found her hunched up and straining. She's not interested in food and I also saw a thin dribble of something clear leaking out of her vent. Is this egg peritonitis?? I can't see an egg in the vent. I had brought...

My Pets Were Taught To Approach People Who Clap And Call Their Names

I find it cute. =) Some people think chickens have a small brain - I still think they're smart, and will grow smarter, still. Especially if you treat them nicely (I think it goes for most animals ^_^)

    We Have Chickens Too!

One day I came back from a fast food place, and decided to eat my lunch on a seat outside. Two of our hens, I don't know the breed, were outside under the bushes and came shyly up to my feet. After looking at me and "talking" to each other for a moment, one of them suddenly...

I always had chickens growing up. They're so cute, and I love the clucking noises they make. Currently I have four, but they have to stay at a friend's house. They're super cute. I got them when they were a day old and they stayed in my room until they were big enough to stay...

    My Girls Are Pullet Princesses

For the last ten years or so I have had the strangest urge to raise chickens. It started with an article I saw in a gardening magazine. The story featured a woman who lived in New England and kept a small coop of hens in her garden. The coop was the centerpiece of her garden...

    Our Hen and the Rooster

My brother got 10 little chickens for a game at a local fair. They were to run in little lanes he set up for them and the person betting on the first chicken to cross the line would be the winner. But those betting tried to prod the chickens with sticks which upset my brother. So...

    The Curious Playful Chick...

My landlord has a large collection of chickens. When one of them had a large group of chicks, I decided to "tame" them. I would crumble bread/seeds/chips in my hand and sit in front of them with my hand out. They would all climb into my hand and jostle each other for space and...

We have 10 chickens, all girls we think.  This past week we moved them into the coop.  They aren't free ranging yet, when the weather gets nice though they will be feathered enough to go outside.

I had let my 2 chicks which had been hatched from twin sister hens at the same time roost with the big girls last night.  I woke up this morning, looked outside, and the smallest was floating in their water pool.  I ran out and scooped it up, thought it was dead...

    Chickens Rule Ok

they are probably the most underrated best, but the most rewarding. Most people dont realise that they all have a different personality, and can be as loving, funny, and sometimes even caring. Definitely more entertaining than any dog or cat.

    The Pecking Order

I like chicken, and chickpeas and Chiclets and chick flicks and chickadees. But mostly I just like chickens. The winged feather version. Bawk-bawk-bawk style. Female chickens actually. The ladies are feisty *******. Real life mean girls with a very estranged status structure. Yes...
