    Grew Up Rural

I grew up rural, we had a well, chopped wood, grew our own vegetables, bartered with local farmers. My parents moved 'back to the land" in the '60's. Sometimes life was hard. One of my friends in high school lost her father because when he had a heart attack, it too over four...

    I Have a House Guest.

For five days now I have found this guy on the washing machine in the morning. He spends a lot of time in the tub. He's there now. He's quite friendly and likes his head stroked.     I present Alberto

    Rural But Close

My home is about 10 miles outside the main city limits.  There are small communities out here.  I live in a neighborhood, but the lots are an acre and half or larger.  Have neighbors...but its pretty wooded out here so quite a lot of privacy. I just love it...

    Nazi Mail Lady

Our mail lady is out to get us.  This winter my son accidentally blew snow into the open door of her little mail truck.  He apologized profusely and helped clean the snow out.  The following day I baked her a cherry pie and left it in the mail box.  She dumped...

Love It Out In The Country!

I have usually lived in sparsely populated areas, even though I have been employed in major cities. I like living out in the sticks. One reason is because I can get naked outdoors out in the sticks!

    Just Out of Town

I think I have the best of both worlds. I'm only ten minutes from work, fifteen from the  centre of town. A small lake and wetlands in the "backyard" is home to several bird species including black swans and white necked ibis.     It's a bit of a worry...

    Takes Some Getting Used to

My first night at our new home my husband took me out into the back pasture in the Jeep.  When I heard the coyotes and owls I would not get out of the Jeep.  He still laughs at me about it.  Come on now I grew up at the beach.  I have never lived in a rural...

    Grew Up On It

Growing up 3 miles out of town and the closest neighbor was 1/4 mile off and the big city was 12 miles off.  It was very peaceful you can be outside and enjoy the wind on your face, the smell of the grass and trees, hear the birds, see the deer in the morning.  Didn't...

    Wild Peacocks In South India.

This was reared by a local farmer.Well, he is not supposed to rear them according to the wildlife act in the country.Since it is India's national bird. However, the mom-peacock came and laid eggs for generations in his backyard -near the rural area where I hang out.So the farmer...

I am in the family room on our lower level.  It is just about midnight.  The window is open and pressed against the screen is a very fat, very curious raccoon.  I wasn't completely startled, I have been expecting his arrival.  He or a possum have been...

I Love Living In A Very Rural Community.

The word rural - unlike the west where there is every comfort - is not what I am referring to. The place I have in mind is very rustic - everything is grown in that community. Celery, Carrorts, Potatoes ,Rice, Sugarcane, Mangoes. No comforts in daily life there - people have to...

    The Sounds Of Silence

Last night I went out to the back yard, it's really a paddock. No noise from the neighbours, no traffic passing by. Just the full moon shining through the breaking cloud. Not even a bird call. Just thousands of frogs calling each other. They seem to be most active during...

I really want to move to a more rural area in

the future. The islolation is soothing and I enjoy getting in touch with nature. Plus the wide open fields make for a good sprint.
