I Like to Lie Outside and Watch the Stars

Once when we were camping in Tanzania,

Africa...we were in the middle of the jungle as the plan was to wake early to see lions at dawn and we were up late telling stories with my friends and their young kids........it was a long time ago, maybe 15 years ago. But I remember looking up into the night sky and seeing...

but this one suits this experience amazingly well so I'm breaking my own rule. I guess rules are made to be broken...lol...here goes.... My family, and two others, went to a cottage this past week. We had a wonderful time, although by mid-week the weather became cool. I did...

Not something that is easy to do in NJ.

Too much artificial light that blocks out the stars, but I remember being out in Arizona, in the dessert at night. The sight was amazing. For those that live near a big city, you can't imagine how many stars you don't see.

I used to sleep on the roof under the sky in

summers. Some nights I'd watch the stars for hours. Until I didn't know if I was asleep or awake. The stars would change their places, move around, dance and make wonderful shapes and patterns. Sometimes I'd fly with them and go to the moon. Wonderful dreams of a child I know...

I'd always love to lay with a girl in the

outdoors at night, having a peaceful bond fire and laying beside it and just watching the stars in the sky and counting them. No technology or anything, just looking up in the sky and having fun, making jokes, and being funny when we're talking to each other how nice.

    There are those nights

that the sky is perfectly clear. I lay back in the grass and my view goes to the south. I scan the skies and know that you are looking at the same stars as I am. They are every bit as brilliant because I know you are looking at them too. One of these nights I hope to view the...

I often find myself laying in grass,

sand, or soil, gazing up at the infinite wonders of the universe. In these moments the chaotic nature of life slips away as I absorb myself in the distant beauty of the night sky. I have done this since I was a child, and now as an adult it has become its own ritual. Sometimes...

There is something about seeing a complete

enormous canvas of stars to put some things into perspective or take away the weight of the world. With all its beauty and mystery, I think that we all could do with taking that little bit of time out of our evening just to stop and realise that we are only a small part of...

Look at the stars. They're the same stars

as last week. Last year. Same as when we were kids. When we weren't even born. In a hundred years, no one will know who we are. But they'll know those same stars.

This morning (4:00'ish) I walked down our

driveway to the road to pick up the newspaper. There were thick, low hanging clouds, so no stars. I noticed a glow in the clouds, and a meteor broke through and left a bright trail as it disappeared behind the hill below the clouds. So cool!

I recently went on a cruise to the Bahamas.

Every night, I'd go to the pool deck, lie down, and look up at the stars for an hour or so. The wind blowing across me was like a bonus :D It was so beautiful- I wanted to tear up. Where I live, there aren't many stars. The most I've seen here was 10. So I'm happy I took the...

    God's Angels

When I was a child, I was taught that the stars represented God's angels who always looked out for us.  We didn't see them in the day time because of the sun but that they were still there watching over us.  When my mother died even though her body went into the ground, her...
