platough wrote on 08:26PM at Jun 10th, 2009 Hey group! The last two things I've read are as different as can be (though perhaps on closer analysis they do overlap) The first was Steppenwolf by Hesse. Nothing in recent memory has been such a powerful read. It was inspiring and possibly even life-validating. The writing was absolutely beautiful and Hesse managed to create such a sense of magic erupt out of reality. It was imaginative and spiritual. If anyone knows of a good follow-up read I would greatly appreciate because frankly this book knocked me off my feet.
The second reading wasn't in a book at all. Lately, given that it is summer and I am a student I have been in a dire need for thoughtful conversations. With most of my friends split up around the world doing their own thing I haven't been challenged intellectually. I found this website, www.pandalous.com that has been wonderful to read. It is hard to explain but it is kind of a medley of a blog, facebook, and wikipedia. There are a bunch of different topics that overlap in interesting ways and a very thoughtful community that is both supportive and interesting. There is a book section which I have found very good for reading discussion and book suggestions. If anyone knows of more websites like this one and pandalous.com or of books like Steppenwolf I would be very grateful. Thanks a lot My mood: very cheerful
