    Drawn To Them

I've always had a fascination with Victorian post mortem photography. I think they are stunning and quite beautifully and tastefully done. For many, it was the one and only photograph they would have of a loved one. Its a shame that today's society shuns that history.

    Victorian Africa

There are some pictures floating around out there of the victims of the "Tsavo Man-Eaters." It's a pretty cool story if you don't know it. Grizzly pictures, even in grainy 1800's black and white.

    I Enjoyed Studying It Too

Sort of morbid in a way but interesting, isn't it?  Many years ago (when I was a bit depressed) I read a number of world histories on burial and memorial practices. One book was about these mortuary and "salon" photos during the Victorian era. I recall they...

    Morbid & Cool!

I'm a morbid person anyway and when I found these kinds of things for sale on Ebay....anyway very cool!! I can't afford them, but I like looking at them. It is a little creepy though how they used to "pose" the dead. Putting the kids on bikes or whatever, I guess to remember...

    Strange.........

i found these photos by mistake, and i cant stop looking @ them, the photos of some of them posed standing up with their siblings are weird, some just look like they are sleeping, the ones with their eyes open are painted on the photo, relatives got the option to do that.

    Photos and Hair Jewelry

I am an undertaker's kid.  fun was going out to lod cemetaries, looking at headstones, reading them and imagining all that person possibly saw, did or felt in the time they were alive.  the photos remind us that death is the final real fact of life.  My beliefs say...

My Photos Vanished - Anyone Have...?

I spent two years photographing "lost cemeteries" in Ohio and Pennsylvania in the early 80's - beautiful black and whites of mostly child graves (after digging beneath the overgrowth) and crypts that had long been ignored by time and humans alike.... These pictures...

    I Know It's Creepy

But something draws me to them.  I can't stop looking at them.  Maybe I'm just morbid.  Yeah- that's probably it.

    So Sweet,

I have been collecting these for a few years, as well as antique remembrance cards. When I look at them I see history and much love. The care that went into these is really moving. For many, this was the only picture they would ever have of their loved one. They were not...

    Don't Eat Raw Peanuts

My grandma had a box of old timey photos.  I came across a pile of the same picture.  It was a boy sleeping on a table dressed in a cute little outfit with knicker bottoms. All of them were glued onto fancy thick paper.  I asked her who it was.  It was her 10...

    They Look So Life-like

I've never seen anything like it. Simply amazing. Today's society definitely needs to take more pictures of its dead :)
