    Nothing Special

I'm sort of a powerlifter.  My best 1RMs are 320 bench, 420 squat.  My deadlift technique needs work.  50 years old, 215 bodyweight.

    Dead End :(

I didn't get into weight lifting til I first got out of high school. I had a lot of big friends that were into it before then though. I have a really high metabolism and don't put on weight very well, so when I first started weight lifting it was so hard to put on any weight...

    Funny How It Works

Iv had a weight bench since 7th grade. When I was younger I had no clue about fitness and diets and all that. I was husky and the football coach wanted me to play. I thought I could JUST lift weights and I would get lean and healthy. Boy was I wrong. I didnt have any older...

    A New Program

I am trying a version of a wave cycle for the bench. You bench 3x/wk, doing a 5-4-3-2-1 workout each time. Each workout increases the weight 5 lbs each set. The next workout that week, you start 5 lbs higher, so your top single weight increases 10 lbs over the week. The next...

I couldn't lift for about three weeks because I was getting ready for and doing a jury trial. I lost 9 lbs of bodyweight during the trial (I eat very little in trial). Now that I am starting to lift again, I am astounded and depressed at how much weaker I am.

    Lifting Weight And Fat

I've always wanted to be in great shape. I feel as though, when you take care of your body it will take care of you. I know not all girls want buff guys but I always felt I would draw more chicks with a sculpted body. I do well now, can you imagine with a 6 pack? I love a good...

    Leg Work

For reasons I mentioned in an earlier post, my workouts were seriously disrupted over the last couple of months. Checking my log, I noted that I had not done a leg workout since September 4. I bit the bullet and did one today. I always suffer when I get back to it after a layoff...

Do the weightlifting 3 times a week with rest day between each workout. Do running the other days. Do every set to failure that’s where u cant do another rep. Normal workout is 3 sets . If more time do 4 or 5 sets especially if building muscle for next season to go up in...

I had been doing a "wave" bench workout. You do bench 3 x wk. Each workout is a 5-4-3-2-1, going up 5 lbs each set; and raising everything 5 lbs for the next workout of the week. In the next week you start with the weights you used for the middle workout the week before. So...

    Politics And Lifting Don't Mix

A local officeholder died of cancer in August with several years left on her term, and state law required a successor to be elected at the November general election. Against my better judgment, I assumed a large role in one of the candidate's campaigns. This decision basically...

    Want to Start Again

I used to lift quite a bit but not so much lately. I wish I had the time and resources to get into it... oh and a partner to join me.

    Fellow weightlifters,

I am reaching a plateau with my workouts. Any exercise/set ideas other than the basics?

    I got back into weightlifting

and exercise in general about a year ago, 10 years after I gave it up after my dedication to it dwindled over a couple of years. My first year was going well until I tweaked my back and ended up doing a little physical therapy to get myself back where I needed to be. I gained...

    Shoulder Issue

I've been having a problem with my left shoulder. A few weeks ago, it was just some mild discomfort. It has deteriorated to be a severe burning pain that I also feel in the left trap and tricep. It does not affect my lifting, but ordinary actions, like pulling off a t-shirt...

    On The Name......

Shouldn't the group be called "I Like Working Out" or "I Like Lifting Weights?" Weightlifting is an actual sport, also an Olympic Sport (Weightlifting = Olympic Weightlifting). There are two lifts for the sport, and endless conceivable exercises to prepare for those two lifts. 1...

    My Niché

One of the few things I can actually lend an intelligent, informed voice too. I love weight-lifting. Nothing beats the rush of pushing this seemingly-fragile human machine to its limits & watching it respond by growing stronger & more resilient. Max squat=495lbs, one arm dumbbell...
