misssunnybunny wrote on 11:12AM at Jan 5th, 2013 It has been pretty quiet around here. Post holiday lull? Personally I haven't had much to say so I haven't been posting, mostly lurking and reading......

oceansun wrote on 11:21AM at Jan 5th, 2013 I agree, for me personally, I just couldn't take any more stories about eggs, laundry, and nagging. **** this place is lame. People come here to nag about their spouse and that's it, no plan, no action, no desire to fix nor leave, just nag, nag, nag. People who ask for advice and don't take it. "askholes".

nyartgal wrote on 03:01PM at Jan 5th, 2013 Well, I've only been here 6 months but it seems like there are new people joining every day. If someone had a lot of free time, it would be interesting to contact a bunch of the old posters who used to participate a lot and see where they are now. There has to be some telling statistical data there---who left, who stayed, if those who left are happier (duh, yes), if those who stayed worked it out. One thing I've realized inn life is that not everyone has the same set point for happiness. A lot of people are ok with being just sort of ok. ba

tthetree wrote on 03:26PM at Jan 5th, 2013 Bazzar, Are you referring to the 'Forum and Chat' section specifically or to the ILIASM section in general? Because the 'Stories' part still seems to be fairly active, although there's a bit of a post holiday slump. But I've only been hanging about the place for a couple of months, so have no real idea as to what it's been in the past.

mvcmvc wrote on 04:18PM at Jan 5th, 2013 Folks seem to be posting more on the Stories section relative to this part of the ILIASM.

MissLee wrote on 05:18PM at Jan 5th, 2013 IMO, it's because the forum link is not as prominent as it used to be, and also I think the forum feed isn't prominent on our profile pages. I forget about the forums. :(

bazzar wrote on 07:34PM at Jan 5th, 2013 @tree. Just this forum section.

Maleficent77 wrote on 12:42AM at Jan 7th, 2013 EP automatically takes you to the stories section - I just realized there was a forum

hl42 wrote on 03:25AM at Jan 7th, 2013 I've wanted to post stuff here in the forum where it's kind-of informational or discussion rather than specific experience, but chose not to because it doesn't attract the readership, and because it doesn't support threads as the stories section does (which reduces it's value and maybe popularity). I do pop in here and in a way prefer the more reflective aspect, but it's basically inactive.

Petrushka wrote on 06:09AM at Jan 7th, 2013 I practically never even SEE the forum. The way here is oblique, I've looked for it and couldn't find it. I only see it if, somehow, somewhere, a link turns up on my profile which is where I see what various people have been up to, and what group activity has taken place since my last visit. Having said that, I dislike this format even more than the way the story->comment-> reply_to_comment are structured. I am a usenet veteran and I'm used to threaded posts where you can see who replied to whom and when instead of frantically scrolling up and down the page to find the latest comment on a comment that you got a notification about. Web forums in general suck donkey **** by comparison to usenet. Which, incidentally, is dying out entirely because hardly anyone knows about it these days. Guess if I chose a different entry point to EP I'd see this forum more often. As it is, I look in here maybe twice a year .... {shrug}

angryguy77 wrote on 02:16PM at Jan 7th, 2013 Well, I could start acting like FOIA for your and VB's amusement. Just give me a few days to practice writing replies that contain a bunch of useless advice. We'll be back in business in no time.

Petrushka wrote on 05:04PM at Jan 7th, 2013 FOIA seems to have changed into MIA. Not that I miss his waffling ..

zsuzsilowinger wrote on 12:24PM at Jan 8th, 2013 USENET! OMG I thought Usenet was dead already.

elkclan wrote on 04:55PM at Jan 8th, 2013 Miss Lee is right. Not only is the link to the forum no longer prominent, but EP no longer flags that there are new forum comments. It's a negative spiral. Small changes in the user interface can lead to big changes in user behaviour.

maryryan wrote on 11:08AM at Jan 9th, 2013 As usual, I am with hl. Of course, as the posters who comprise the forum, we could repopulate it... FOIA is now notavbwannabe or something like that. I also agree that the user interface changes have made a difference. I miss the discussion/give-n-take intent of the forum. I was posting those items here and longer features as stories....

wisiwig wrote on 04:05PM at Jan 11th, 2013 I forget to look in the forum - and just look at the stories that people are commenting on - I still hate the 'new' layout as you have to scroll forever and can't just glance down the page - and the name of the story isn't obvious. But still here after all these years. Learnt a lot about myself and much calmer - now I just read a lot of interesting stories, not just ILIASLM ones. Still love you vaguesbaby - or whatever you call yourself now, how's the lovely Penelope?

Pinkberry wrote on 07:12PM at Jan 15th, 2013 As a person who greatly misses the 09-11 heyday, a dying forum saddens me. I was one to frequent the forums more than the stories, even when I tried to pay more attention to the stories, they would just get away from me. There were too many. Thankfully, I had many friends here who would direct me to stories that were especially compelling and the forums were thriving. Alas, I don't stop in nearly so much as I once did, so it is difficult for me to complain about less traffic as a general thing, though the new design of EP certainly makes it hard to find what one is looking for. I still wish that things had worked out for me to go to the first get together. The most recent one was great, but it lacked what I suspect was a much more intimate setting at the first.

tthetree wrote on 08:03PM at Jan 15th, 2013 bazzar, Since your appeal, the forums have come alive. Whatever the merits, canauckchris certainly managed to get people posting here. Personally, I like impassioned debate, so I see it all as a positive.

hl42 wrote on 03:04AM at Jan 16th, 2013 Yes, what I particularly liked about what happened is that people didn't just bemoan the fact - they started posting here! Perhaps the skills developed from escaping the SM - we take action. And like you say, probably a good environment for the canuckchris type discussions.
