    Internets Good Yeah?

I remember reading the dictionary before bed at night when I was a kid. Yeah say what you will, I like words. I won't say I'm actually any good at stringing a sentence together, but just because someone likes playing with internal organs, doesn't mean they're a surgeon...

It Started As My Grandfathers Reward!

My grandfather who loved to learn new things, having been an Air Force Master Sgt, along with many other careers after retirement used money as an icentive to get us kids to learn words lol For every 10 definitions we looked up and wrote down he would give us a dollar. So back...

    Words

Whenever I come across an unfamiliar word I say it to myself three times then I look it up in dictionary.com. If I'm at work I use an actual dictionary & thesaurus. I love the thumb indexes.

    By Necessity

If one reads a story or article and skips over a word that they don't understand they may miss the meaning of the entire text. By necessity I look up those words to understand the author's intended meaning, and to possibly expand my vocabulary. One word can sometimes be the...

    Word I Looked Up Today

I was reading through confessions today on this site, and I noticed an EP member's mood was "quixotic." I'd never even heard that word before! lol. So I wondered about it, and then I'm like "o hey, I'll look it up!" Good, ol' dictionary.com again! Since synonyms "ding" in my...

    Online Dictionary

Dictionary.com is my friend!  I jot down or make mental notes of words I don't know to look up later.  And as it's rather impractical to be hauling around an Oxford English or Webster's Unabridged!!

    Context Then Dictionary

Whenever I am reading a story or whatever I use context clues first, and then I try to guess what the word means. I always get excited whenever I am close to the definition. My family thinks I am crazy whenever I do this.

    Yes I Do

It's the only way you are going to learn the words, and it takes 10 seconds to do.

Pseudoantidisestablishmentarianism it means “a feigned opposition to the separating of the state from the Church” and, at 34 letters, it draws level with the Mary Poppins nonsense

    "cloyingly"

For some reason, foodies have adopted this as a favorite word.  They say something is "cloyingly sweet" all the time, and I never really knew what it meant.  They use it in a context which I would take to mean 'too sweet', but the word itself sounds more like it's 'flirting...

I Like To Keep Up My Education

Although I graduated in 1972 from high school and couldn't afford college, I like to discover new words and their meanings. For that quirk, I can thank Merle Lundahl, Laura Barr, and Lois Sealing - God rest them all. Every one of them is responsible for making me love language...

    Always!

Ever since I was child, I learned to look up words. Only because my parents were fed up with me asking all the time, "What does that word mean?" So they bought me a dictionary and would answer my question with an very annoyed, "Go look it up!" XD So, every...

    I Like To Be Correct

I have my name all over the place in thousands of stories. If that many people are being exposed to my stuff, I feel I owe it to my readers to keep things neat and articulated as well as I am able.
