I love biology. And I love biology in almost

every form. I love microbiology, genetics, botany, and ecology. I have taken liking to almost any form of biology you could think of. Life is beautiful when you look in the right places. Studying life is something I enjoy. I'd think if someone were to look at all the life...

I found myself "re-making" some comic I drew

last year in class while studying for my biology exam. It's sort of a biology joke For some reason I used to do this a lot once I learned something new. (In case you don't know, fungus digest food before actually "eating" eat. It's kind of disgusting. Google it)

    Predators As Climate Helpers

In lakes and streams, fish and insects can help protect aquatic plants that gobble up greenhouse gas oo few bugs or fish could affect Earth’s climate in a big way, by contributing to the buildup of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere, a new study finds. It’s a surprising...

    "Love" is a strong word.

We went over the Punnett Square in class today, showing how genetics can skip generations. But it can do nothing to explain where the heck my height comes from. It's the first topic brought up at Thanksgiving. The world may never know.

    Cyclops. (Copepods) I love them,

but they're insanely hard to catch with a pipette. :/

Here is a practical I've done in biology last

year. (Picture above) this is a cows kidney, we were dissecting. This is not disgusting, this is education... We did this practical to learn about the human kidney! Even though it's a cows kidney, it still has the same functions and similar structure to the human kidney. The...

So we've been taking samples of pond water

for a lab, and then we basically looked at them under a microscope. There was some common sense analysis, such as the quantity and variety of species in an oligotrophic area vs a more balanced area, etc. Recently we managed to identify two different species that were expected...

Last week in lab, we looked at bacteria under a

microscope. Live bacteria from pond water samples we had collected and let ferment. God it was amazing! I found such excitement and enthusiasm in watching amoebas and various bacteria swimming and sliding through the circular view of my microscope. Who knew something so...

Currently, my interest in biology can't compare

to the interest of the more seasoned biology lovers in this group. However, I'm a 17 year old girl and I plan to learn a lot more about the subject in the coming years as I intend to become a biology teacher.

Are we humans, as a species,

monogamous or polygamous? Truth be told we are neither or we are both and this is why. We will start simple, sexual dimorphism. This is the correlation of body sizes between male and females of the same species. The larger the male in relation, the more polygamous the species...

    Anti-bacterial Cicada's Wings

Cicada’s wings have the coolest defence mechanism—their wings are covered by pillar-like protrusions that shred bacteria to pieces. When a bacterium reaches the surface of the wing, it sticks to the surface of the pillars and its cellular membrane stretches until torn apart...
