    Love A Good Fortress

I love visiting old forts. Here in the US, there's not much on the castle front, but there are plenty go old forts to visit. One of my favorite places to visit is the old Spanish fortress at St. Augustine, FL - the Castillo de San Marcos. It was the first fortress I ever visited...

    Tintagel Castle, Cornwall

It's hardly worthy of being called a castle now. What's remaining of the structure is slowly crumbling into the sea. But there is simply something about Tintagel that is absolutely breathtaking.  I can imagine what it must have looked like back in its hay day. Legend has it that...

    Of Course I Do

Ah yes wandering around old fortresses is lots of fun. The one that I've been to the most is the one on Shark island  a fort converted to a prison then retired and a few ghost stories to go with it I'd really love to visit an old castle but they are in short supply here...

I love wandering through the old castles, and some of the Roman fortress remains. It is amazing what those from the past built. Of course there is a fortress of my mind, which I try to keep the drawbridge open to.

    A Visit To The South

A long time ago, over sixty years ago, my family returned to France from Algeria, where they had lived among the indigenous peoples, where they made a life as part of the French colonial establishment, in their smaller way, and first they came as so many did to Marseille. Forty...

    Very Fortunate Then...

I love castles and particularly the ruins of castles.  Very fortunate of course that I live in Ireland as that means I am never that far away from one. I have visited a large number of them with my mother, as she loved to do the UK and Ireland trips around them.  Floor...

    Swallow'S Nest (Ukraine)

Is this not miraculous? Try to not enjoy the view from your bedroom here and you would need to be placed in a straight jacket.
