    Conkers

I dont know why chestnuts are called conkers and I am not sure if it is a general term or just a local one. but I loved picking up chestniuts and hanging them on a string and seeing if they survived as I swung it at the kids next door. . We were only about 12 and needed to see...

    Like A Squirrel

As a kid growing up in WA, we lived in the woods. Most of the forest was Douglas fir. I used to climb way up high and jump from one tree to another crossing the entire forest like a squirrel. Fun!

    I don't know how to,

but I'd really love to. This shall be enlisted in my bucket list. I ought to climb a tree someday, as high as I can. But before I do this, I must plant my trees first. Call me naive, but I'm gonna build a forest of some kind.

    Above the Canopy

My dream is to go to a rain forest and climb those trees!!  I want to be able to sleep on the limbs.  I want to climb all the way to the tippy top and look out over the rich, lush, green canopy.  I want to feel the sun and hear the birds and inhale everything about...

    Treeclimber As A Kid.

Wow, this takes me back!! I havent climbed a tree since childhood, but it was one of my favorite activities!! Too chicken today. I used to climb all sorts of trees. Sycamore trees, where I would have to shimmy up to the first branch. Maple trees, elm trees, oak trees.  I once...

    I Fell...

I was in WA as a kid. I was climbing an alder tree and got all the way to the top (where the branches are smaller). The one I was standing on broke. I was about 60 feet up. I fell backwards in a free-fall. My body broke every branch on the way down and I ended up landing in a big...

    Oregon

I grew up in western Oregon in a logging town and spent a lot of time in the trees.  My friends and I built tree forts in the woods and in the front yard and often when I wanted to think I would go outside and sit up on the branch of a tree.  The first time I hung out...

    Trees!!!!

Sometimes its had to get started up the tree but once you get up it is pretty easy from there. Its so much fun seeing how high up in the tree you can get and then finding your way down again. Personally I think climbing down the tree is kind of hard. One time I was climbing down...

    Branch After Branch

I think it's harder near the bottom to get started, once oyu've covered the first few branches, you're off!! Until you run out of branches...then you need to get down and try the next one. I've probably climbed all the trees in the woods nearby now, which is annoying. I must find...
