I did my first spinning class

and it was amazing! I could only do 33 minutes. I loved the music, the intensity and the instructor barking out orders. My butt's sore. I'll go again, working my way up to 60 minutes and a tougher class. I see why some people become addicted to it because all your senses are...

I have a trail bike. I love going out on my

bike. There are a few cycle paths. One goes along the coast. Another goes along an old railway line up to a coal mine that closed down. Its really steep! I don't know how the trains got up there. But it's nice coming back! I usually go for the day and take a picnic.

2nd time back on a bike this past weekend

since early June when I did a ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. This weekend was for the Canary Challenge. 75 miles and 6800 ft of elevation gain. Was worried at first that I would have been too out of shape after an almost 4 month break from cycling, but I did fairly well...

Goals Goals, What Should It Be?

Ever year I set some kind of cycling goal. Why?  Because without a goal it's to easy to say it's to cold, hot, wet, windy, or something.  I have a standard 5000 mile goal each year.  One year it was a 200 mile day, another was RAGBRAI, another was RAIN.  I have a few still...

Last year I hardly managed to ride 3000 km.

My two-week cycling vacation in April was a disaster, I was ill all of the time and hardly could ride. This year I want to ride 4000+ km. I've got three bikes, two road bikes and a cyclocross bike.

The hardest ride that I ever had was from

Auburn, California, to Truckee over Donner Pass. 74 miles. 8,000 feet of climbing. Heavy rain at the start. Wet snow above 4,000 feet. 32 deg F at the summit. I flatted partway up and a friend gave me his front wheel so I could continue while he abandoned. I was completely...

Late, late night. Warm Summer air.

The streets are very quiet. I cycle swiftly through a green-light wave. The only sound I hear is the soft whirring of the chain and wheels turning. My suspension rebounds easily as I hit harder cobblestones. It feels really cool to be cycling like this. As if the streets are all...

My youngest son and I went on a late evening
