I Love Hiking

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 936 People

I have been an avid hiker

since high school. I just enjoy walking the trails, taking in the scenes and it's a great family togetherness outing in my house we can all agree to. We just grab our water bottles and hit the fire trail up by the house here and once you reach the top, which is about a 4 mile...

Where did I learn to love hiking?

Well, it wasn’t from my family.  My parents weren’t exactly poor, but early in their marriage money was scarce and they didn’t have a car.  To them, walking was what poor people did. Being poor meant you had no money for a car.  When you had saved up money for a car...

    Chilkoot Trail

I am planning to hike the Chilkoot Trail this summer in Alaska and the Yukon. Can't wait as I have never been that far north. I heard about the trail years ago and just have made the decision to do it this summer.

    After The Storm

Today from the start at about 8 in the morning when I looked out side was cold, dreary, and foggy. Of course after years of hiking on the AT it takes some pretty serious weather to keep me from going out on a day that I want to. I decided to go a park that is near where I work...

    Great Exercise

I am fortunate that we have a lot of hiking trails very close to home. It's great getting out in the sun with the mountains and everything else. Life seems so much clearer during my hikes. Great exercise for the body, mind and soul.

    Favorite Hiking Experience

I still hike with regularity, but my favorite experience was in 1999 when I did a solo trip over six days in Glacier National Park. I've been to National Parks all over the country and indeed the world, but Glacier will always be something special to me. It was six days; I was...

I love how friendly people out in nature are.

When I go on hikes I am always greeted with a friendly smile and hello from complete strangers. More people should step outside and breath. Take in nature and smile because they can!
