I Love Kafka

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 65 People

I've spent years obsessing over Kafka's work.

My ability to cite minute details and even attempt to write a dissertation on his work makes me feel like an imposter. I'm riding on his coat tail, not being able to create on my own. I want to apologize to myself, am I wasting my years away? Deep down I still think In...

    Before The Law

“You are insatiable.” “Everyone strives after the law,” says the man, “so how is that in these many years no one except me has requested entry?” The gatekeeper sees that the man is already dying and, in order to reach his diminishing sense of...

    Incapable of living with people,

of speaking. Complete immersion in myself, thinking of myself. Apathetic, witless, fearful. I have nothing to say to anyone - never. - Kafka

    I Found Who I Was.

The first time I ever heard of Kafka was from a punk song "My Friend Chris" by The Menzingers (it's a beautiful acoustic song that still brings tears to my eyes, check it out!), and it was at that moment when the chorus first droned "and maybe Kafka was a writer, but I've been...

Just Feeling Like I Have to Write a Story..

I just read "Brief an den Vater" (maybe something like "letter to the father" in english). It's really nice to read something he has written about himself. I almost started crying several times because there where some things that kind of happened to me in a...

Love Is Actually Not Strong Enough a Word...

A person who can write things like this must be a genius. I adore this man. I adore his way of writing. I adore his imagination. I adore his intelligence. Just everything about thim is absolutely amazing... If I could go back in time and meet one dead person it would be Kafka.

    Fell In Love With Kafka

I chose Kafka's "The Trial" for my graduation research 2 years ago. I fell in love with him since then. His allusions, uniqueness, shocking representation make his books "an axe for the frozen sea within us". He is a man who stands out.

    Beloved

A long time ago I got a cassette with his complete works.  It was illustrated by himself and I was very impressed by his hasty sketches.  I had read some of his major works before, but now I had them all and I saw my supposition confirmed that he had a lot of humor...

I Read Something By Kafka Almost Every Night.

The first book by Kafka I read was The Castle. Since then I've read almost all of his published works and am currently reading letters he wrote. I found many parallels between his life and mine, or rather his and my ways of living and such. I had a very good friend from...
