    In bed for the night.

After having put Benedryl cream all over myself.. Back of my thigh and knee. Right cheek. Left forearm. And left side. Must have found some poison ivy while camping... No fun. Wasn't 'allergic' when I was a kid. I could walk they it and others would get it, but I didn't...

When I was a child my joy was to read books.

While the other kids were hiking, camping, sailing......my nose would be buried in some adventure book. Later I learned this is called "living vicariously".....through the experiences of other. In my later years I started to examine my behaviour, thoughts and feelings...

I'm Lucky to Live Where I Do

I was born and raised in the pacific northwest and I think it's one of the most beautiful areas in the United States, ever since I was a kid I've loved hiking and camping in the Olympic National Forest. When I was growing up my dad would use his vacation time every summer...

I think night hiking deep in the wilderness by

only the ambient light is one of the most humbling and peaceful activities. The nocturnal world is special, and as my senses are heightened by the darkness, I feel a more profound bond with my environment.

    Joshua Tree National Park!

I love desserts, and camping in Joshua Tree NP was one of my bucket list items! It's now crossed off my list!!! Backpacked down a smaller trail and found a peaceful secluded spot to put up my little tent. Sat out and looked at the night sky for a while. There was a nice half...

    When Good Camping Turns Bad

I should have known, some days it is better to not go camping than to go. At noon on Friday, I pulled my camping gear off the basement shelf. Everything, including the inside of my kitchen box, was COVERED in mold. I bleach washed everything, including the air mattress (yes...

The Great Smoky Mountains Of Tennessee

For 4 nights I camped right next to the bank of a river that stretched down from the Smokies. Our campsite was away from all the rest of the happy campers. It was a perfect place to soak up the beauty, energy that Mother Nature offers. Makes a person go WOW! Sights and the...

Saw a Bear While Hiking This Week

On Monday me, my five year old and my husband went for a short day hike on a trail about a mile from our house. It's a wide trail next to a wetland area; salmon berry, cattail and tall rushes border the edges with a lot of cottonwood, alder trees and the occasional sword...

I love dressing in my leotards,

tights, leg warmers andeven my high heels and go out for drives and walks. I've even gone hiking on trails dressed so exposed. No where to run or hide when seen and caught. Even done the camping thing dressed. So exciting.

Ok so went on my second home couple of weeks

ago. It was only six miles but it was such a big achievement. The last stretch was the hardest. The group looked at me like wow you know what your doing. But I didn't give up. I did the whole thing. And there was such a crazy ascent. Felt like mountain hiking. But looking...

    Sapphire Falls

I went on an awesome hike one time with my church youth group. We thought it would be a easy hike up a stream to a pool with a small, but natural water slide. The easy way ended up being private property, we even saw some people get tickets which was $100 each, so we went down...

I Just Love The Canadian Rockies

Sometimes my work might be boring, but at least I live amidst spectacular natural surroundings. Frequently I see eagles, deer and even a black bear or two just by looking out the window. And on a day off, just to go a bit out of the little town and set up camp is pretty amazing...

I love being in the middle of nowhere,

where the only thing you have to think about is getting through the day. Cutting fire wood to make dinner, fishing or trapping to eat. Life is so simple when you take away jobs and money and greed, when you ***** it down to its simple basics, it's beautiful.

Being in a forest, or near running water, or near a waterfall, is for me, an experience somewhere between therapy, and worship.  It revives my soul, and lifts my spirits, and brings me joy, and a great, great sense of peace. God is present everywhere, but it is easier for...
